My boyfriend has was due his renewal mobile phone at the end of last month (April) and we decided to go into ‘Phones4u’ mobile phone shopto see what they would offer as a upgrade. Once in the shop, no more than 30 seconds later you get the mobile phone guys asking if you want any help. At the time all my boyfriend wanted was an upgrade which he gets every year.
Me and my big mouth happened to ask what this new ‘3’ network is all about. So having the mobile phone guy go on and on about the phone, it made my boyfriend want the NEC E616 instead.
~The Handset.~ It’s a flip up front (also know as a clam shell) which makes it look nice. Its silver in colour, with there logo ‘3’ network on the right hand side. You have a small front display screen, which displays, Time & Date, Signal 3G network - which indicates if you are in the ‘3’ video service area, ‘3’ service connection and global positioning service.
It will display a message if the phone battery is low and making a bleeping noise (we spent about 5 minutes the first time it bleeped to work out where it was coming from). It also displays if you have any text messages, and caller ID when someone rings.
At the bottom on the front of the phone you have a camera light(suppose it comes in handy if you ever have a power cut, other than that I don’t see the point), camera, and LED indicator.
On the side of the phone you can adjust the volume with the up and down keys. I have also discovered that these keys can be used to view who a text message is from without having to open the phone as its on the little display window on the front.
Okay so far the phone isn’t looking too bad, looks nice, bit heavier that most phones (Weight is about 130 grams) but still overall a nice phone.
So we open up the phone, my god it’s a brick!!!! Its like walking around with your landline phone attached to your ear.
As it’s a flip up front there is kind of two sections to the phone. The screen takes up the top half, which leaves the bottom half for the keypad.
~The Screen~ The screen is big and in colour, you have the time and date displayed again with all the fancy stuff that I mentioned which was displayed on the front display screen. You also have the front of the camera at the top left.
~The Keypad~ You have your usual numbers 0 – 9, Hash and star keys plus the send and end keys. A menu key which takes you to the task menu. The triangle key (its round but with a triangle on it) this is ‘3’ services which basically gives you boring information most of which you have to pay for. You have your left and right soft keys which takes you too your prompts that are displayed on the left and right bottom corners of the screen. Menu is split up into 9 little window boxes, you can access messages, file manger, multimedia, contacts, java, external connections, settings, toolbox.
~The Camera~ It’s a Dual camera, takes pictures from the front and the back. Was impressed with the quality of the pictures as they were nice and clear. You can make a 11 second video, record or download sounds.
~Other Functions~ Has a MP3 player so that you can download music and it will play it but you cant put much music on it. I could only get 3 songs on mine.
You can do file transfers from PC to phone or phone to PC, with the phone you get a USB cable which allows you to download files.
You have to download your games on the phone if you want to play any, as it doesn’t come with any on there.
One thing the phone doesn’t have is infrared – which I thought most mobiles nowadays have them.
The phone has 40 Polyphonic ringtones, which you have too download, which is another bad point as most if not all you have too pay for. The phone book holds up too 500 names and numbers. You can make video phone calls to other users.
You have a adjustable vibration alerts – There are 3 setting, the vibrations just get longer apart.
So it brings to me the batteries. The phone comes with two batteries. I thought that was a great idea until Ive seen that it doesn’t hold its charge for longer than a day. You have a slimline battery and a brick battery. It doesn’t take long to charge, about a hour is good too get a full battery.
As the phone is brick like, this big battery makes it BIGGER! It doesn’t fit in your pocket, it really needs its own seat in the car if you go out.
~What you get with the phone~ A ‘3’ sim card, headphones, hands free fit, CD to download files to phone plus USB cable, 2 batteries (one slimline, other a bigger battery), instruction manual.
~3 Network~ Well apparently they are cheaper than any network. Standard call charges range from 5p to 50p. Text messages cost 10p and video messages are 50p
~My Views and thoughts on this phone~ Well if you want to be Dom Jolly this is the phone for you as its nearly that big. The pictures on the phone that it takes are great. I can’t fault them in any way. The 11-second videos that it makes are good too. We did a few video takes of our two children. My boyfriend has their pictures as his screen saver. So he sees them everytime he opens the phone.
Would I get this phone??? No I wouldn’t. Its full of gadgets but everything seems to have to be downloaded. I mean what good is this phone if you don’t have the Internet? Plus the phone is too big. It’s a nice phone for people who love these gadgets, but im a person who doesn’t.
On a contract you get this phone free, i dont believe you can get them on pay as you go.
Im afraid im going to give this phone the thumbs down :O( And unless the 3 network get any better I will be moving back to vodafone and maybe onto there 3G network (which I will obviously be researching on ciao before i sign anything)
Thank you for reading my review

Advantages: Pretty Much Everything Disadvantages: Screen gets easily clogged with dust, battery life is pretty average when you watch videos/use the camera, build feels a little flimsy
