What's going on with this phone? The 3 network have got a corker price drop on this - from about £200 down to £45.00 (inc airtime) - just in time for Xmas of course!! - They seem to be widely available (at the moment) from Dixons, Argos, Woolworths etc ... all at this ridiculous price !!
Now, there's not really anything wrong with my Samsung T100, after 2 and half yrs its still going strong and I still love it to bits BUT the kid in me wants a camera, video, music, the lot..... and, although I've found 02 to be fine for me, I became curious in the 3 network and decided to GO FOR IT - So, now being the proud owner of a NEC e616v for 5 days, what do I think ? WELL - - my first impression on opening the box (bearing in mind I own a cute little
Samsung Clamshell) was its size, this phone is somewhat bigger than I'm used to even though its described as a slimline clamshell design , it's still a bit bigger than I had expected but I guess it has to be when you see what it is capable of.
- battery charged etc...(of which you get two due to higher consumption) I ventured into the world of '3' - thinking to myself 'where do I start with this phone, so much seems to be going on here' but what a suprise I got when I found it was rather easy to navigate around and within minutes I was taking pictures and mini movies of almost everything I could - it has two cameras so you can take a mug shot of yourself or one of whoever is in front of you. GREAT ! -mmmmm, wot do I get for the £15 credit that comes with it - well, on trying to make my first call it diverted to a recorded message which said something like 'this is your first call from this phone, in a few minutes your new phone will be ready to make calls' and it was, just as simple as that - then I called '444' to check my balance and there it was - I had 50 minutes of voice calls and £5 to use as I wanted on other things like texts, music downloads, movie downloads etc which you access by pressing theTriangle Key which 'Unlocks a world of entertainment with 3 Services'- but from what I can see (as detailed on the outer packaging of the box) I can get 30 days of free music videos, games, goals and much more. from the day I start using the phone, and I have - just by pressing the triangle key !! I now have some short comedy clips downloaded, its brill - and some music videos - this phone can hold a tad more than my little Samsung believe me !! BUT, the credit only lasts for 30 days, if it's not used you lose that credit and the least you can top up with is £15 with gives a combination of 50mins talk to any network and £5 to use as you wish on the other stuff like texts etc... Up to now, I've had no probs with the 3 network coverage and I live in Northumberland, but I do believe there may be less coverage elsewhere in the country but if you go to www.three.co.uk you can check coverage out there and also check out the price plans etc.. Texting from this is fine and simple too, the ringtunes already on are ok - first time my phone rang I was pleasently suprised by its melody and it is a rather loud phone when on its highest volume setting. Theres a little John Travolta man sort of dancing around the large screen when you listen to your music or ringtunes (yes, ringtunes, thats what they are called on this phone, not ringtones)
You get a connection for the computer with the software but I have yet to venture into that. you also get a fax number with this phone and it has email capabilities, setting up the email is soooooo.... eazzzzzy ... I can take a picture with the phone and email it to my brother in law in Cyprus ....the quality of the screen is great, I love this feature !! Its also bluetooth enabled etc...
No peak rate penalty No premium to call other networks No minimum call charges No penalty charges for first minutes of calls
I think this phone may become popular in the run up to Xmas - my 14 year old daughter thinks its 'MINT' and believe me, she's up to date on all this mobile lark, she just can't put it down and loves to download the music videos from 3 - she loves the little comedy sketches from 'Angry Kid' and I just had to see the classic comedy one with Laurel and Hardy dancing to 'shine on' - (maybe I'm sad!) but I wonder how kids her age would handle the minimum top up amount with 3. It is an addictive phone and fun to play with, you certainly get a lot for your money at £45 (sure I saw it somewhere on the net for £39.99 but cant recall where) -
If you're looking for a cheap deal with great little gadgets thrown in then go for this, but don't put it in your front jeans pocket, you may look rather excited about having a new toy -

This sounds like a great phone and at a great price too! They're starting to bring out the new video phones this xmas so all the other 'older' phones will be cheaper now like this one (when I said old I was being sarcastic because the phones are constantly changing).

Advantages: Pretty Much Everything Disadvantages: Screen gets easily clogged with dust, battery life is pretty average when you watch videos/use the camera, build feels a little flimsy
