I got this monitor as a present for my 14th birthday and it has lasted me very well over the course of the last 4 years. It has been perfect for my needs and requirements and I have been very pleased with it and hopefully it has a few more years left in it!
The main reason my parents got me a flat screen was because my desk is very small and a normal sized monitor would have been far too large. If you have similar problem spaces and are looking for a small flat screen monitor then the NEC MultiSync LCD1550V would be ideal for you!

Picture Quality
The picture quality is good. The screen is well defined and colour definition is generally very good. I have never had any problems with the quality of the picture, but there again I do not use my PC for serious gaming and don't have a particularly good graphics card. If you do use your computer more seriously for gaming, then perhaps a more up-range monitor would suit your needs better. Nevertheless the quality of picture is good for a mid-range monitor. 7/10
Design and looks
I think that the monitor is very stylish. It has a cool, sophisticated look about it and it fits well onto my computer desk giving me lots of space to write. The black colour makes it look very slim-line and is a bit different from the everyday dull cream or white colours that many monitors are.
Features and adjustment
The monitor has a nice inbuilt control function at the bottom of the display. It blends in well to the machine and is not really noticeable, which is nice. It is very simple to use and allows you to adjust the monitor to suit your individual needs. These include all of the normal settings on a monitor that you would wish to adjust. It is very easy to use and understand. 8/10

Overall, the NEC MultiSync LCD 1550V is a very good middle of the range monitor. It does everything that I want it to and has been very reliable! I have not had any problems with it and have never needed and technical or manufacturer support! If you are looking for a simple flat screen monitor then this is definitely a strong candidate for you. I would rate this monitor as a good 8/10.

Advantages: Pretty good picture, good controls, sturdy base. Disadvantages: Not v. attractive, bit deeper than some newer TFTs
If you can pick up this monitor cheap second hand, the I would recommend doing so. The image quality is actually quite good considering this monitor was first brought out in 2001, and the auto adjust controls mean that after plugging it in there's no tinkering necessary, but I found adjusting the settings helped to get it how I liked it. I say "good" image quality, because the Dell TFT monitors we use at school are much noticeably clearer and sharper, ... ...isn't good.
The screen size is 15", and I was a bit apprehensive about changing this for me 17" CRT when I received it for my birthday. Yet, I find that a 15" TFT has about the same viewable screen size as a 17" CRT, so you're not losing out if you "downgrade"!
Now, if you know your stuff in regards to TFT monitors, you may think that the 30ms response time on this monitor seems dreadful compared to today's 8ms ones. Yet, I have found no ghosting ...

...about six inches square – I know that doesn’t sound like much but in relation to the size of the monitor it does seem rather large. I’ve seen other TFT monitors with a much smaller ‘footprint’. I’m sure NEC could make the stand base a little smaller if they tried. ...
