The NEC LCD3210 is an incredible feature rich display. Although not full HD the image quality is still fantastic. And there is a great range of inputs to connect a variety of devices (from DVD players, to PC's/laptops etc) The design is somewhat dull and unattractive, but very functional and robust. The charcoal grey finish means that scratches do not show up very easily which is great if you're intending to use the screen in multiple locations.
Being a commercial display there is no in-built speakers, however the built-in amplifier has proved excellent with the wide range of speakers we have connected. There is an adaptor required for the speaker output which then makes it like a standard red & black connector for speaker wire so you can connect pretty much anything right down to the speakers on your hifi should you so wish, however I would be concerned as to how easy this connector would be to lose and if you lost it, a replacement could be hard to find. NEC offer a set of speakers for the screen which are the NEC SP-32 speakers. These fit neatly onto either side of the screen and make a great addition to screen and due to the way they fit, they actually make the screen appear slightly larger than it is.One of the best features of this particular model is the ability to create a matrix of screens. To those that aren't familiar with this terminology, this simply means we can put several screens together to create one huge screen. With this particular model, there is great flexibility as you can completely customize the configuration right down to an unusual rig we set-up at the NEC in Birmingham using a set-up comprising 8 monitors in a 4x2 vertical configuration.
The remote control is very compact and although rather simplified and quite dull to look at, it is also very easy to use, yet still maintaining full control of all the features. The on-screen menu's are easy to navigate and very concise, making set-up quick and easy. The user manual is very thorough and covers all features in great detail, but in all honesty, you could take the display straight out the box and start using it without needing to consult the manual at all.The robust nature of this screen is easy to see from the moment you take it out of the box. We have been using our screens for 3+ years now often running them for up to 24 hour periods displaying static images (logos etc). And where plasma screens would have failed, these incredible screens are still running, with no image retention problems to report to this date. We have never had a single fault with any of these screens and it just goes to show that you really do get what you pay for. With an ever increasing number of these screens now being sold on eBay for a fraction of their original price, I would recommend them now more than ever. Invest in a screen of this quality and it should last you for many years to come :-)
