Advantages: Built in Mic & Speakers Disadvantages: Small, Low Resolution
I have a NEC Multisync M500 that I acquired from a friend.
In a modern world, this monitor's cons seem to overweigh the pros - it's a very bulky CRT monitor for starters, the resolution and refresh rate are not impressive and it's very small (14") however, it does feature an excellent microphone and built in stereo speakers.
The monitor is a sort of beige colour, the two stereo speakers either side of the controls at the ... ...the left hand side of the monitor - a socket for an external pair of stereo headphones to be plugged in, allowing you easily plug in a pair of headphones. I imagine this would be very useful if you do not have a front panel on your computer as it is easy to add.
The monitor has an OSD (on screen display) to adjust settings.
It consists of 7 tabs:
- Sound (volume, treble, bass and balance)
- Screen (brightness, ... more
I have a NEC Multisync M500 that I acquired from a friend. In a modern world, this monitor's cons seem to overweigh the pros - it's a very bulky CRT monitor for starters, the resolution and refresh rate are not impressive and it's very small (14") however, it does feature an excellent microphone and built in stereo speakers.
The monitor is a sort of beige colour, the two stereo speakers either side of the controls at the bottom of the monitor. I've noticed a handy feature on the left hand side of the monitor - a socket for an external pair of stereo headphones to be plugged in, allowing you easily plug in a pair of headphones. I imagine this would be very useful if you do not have a front panel on your computer as it is easy to add.
The monitor has an OSD (on screen display) to adjust settings. It consists of 7 tabs: - Sound (volume, treble, bass and balance) - Screen (brightness, contrast, video boost and degauss) - Size (left/right, down/up, narrow/wide and short/tall) - Colours (temperature, red, green and blue) - Shape (in/out, left/right, tilt, align and rotate) - Tools (surround mode, language, osm position, osm turn off, osm lock out, linearity and factory preset) - Info (fitness tips and display mode)
The nicest feature on the monitor is 'Fitness Tips' which periodically shows tips on how to use your computer as to prevent health problems. They are really quite interesting!
The monitor comes with a handy user guide which explains all the tabs and options on the On Screen Display.
With the XP drivers, the monitor supports the following modes with True Color (32 bit): 640 by 480 75hz max 800 by 600 75hz max 1024 by 768 75hz max 1280x1024 60hz max I would not suggest using a refresh rate (hz) less than 60hz. This is considered the workplace minimum, and can cause eye-problems with extended use.
In all, this monitor would make a perfect second monitor, however with new technology such as TFT, I cannot see this monitor being used as a primary monitor for activities such as gaming.
Advantages: Good picture Disadvantages: Speakers are basic
This is a very nice monitor, supports loads of modes. This monitor will self install its self on Windows 95 with out needing a driver. I got mine as second hand. This is a heavey monitor as you would expect for a CRT, so take care when lifting. This comes with a range of features for improving picture quality. This monitor has two power saving modes: 1. Full standby (no picture, speakers turned off, orange light) 2. Standby, with speakers on (yellow ...
