Until recently, home networking has been the domain of nerds, and rich ones at that. Not only did a home network require at least two (expensive) PCs, but also the other relevant equipment which itself wasn't exactly as cheap as chips (to quote another "Duke"). There has been much grumbling in this household about the amount of time that I spend online hogging the phone line and I had always promised that as soon as I considered broadband to be within my price range, I would sort out this problem and everyone would be happy. Well, that day has arrived, and as the resident nerd it's up to me to ... more

The Netgear dg834g is the second router that I have purchased after my last Linksys router lasted me a good three years. The Linksys was a good router and served me well over the years, but I do feel that its signal was not strong enough to reach all rooms of the house and the direct connection port to my computer on the router had started to malfunction so it was clearly time now to look for a new router. Now I typed the router name into Dooyoo to check which other reviews are available and there was just a 154 word review that was really rubbish to be honest. That's the main reason I want to ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages drops connection during lightning storms, manual slim on advanced features

*** I should note that my Netgear router has v2 on the bottom of it - version 2 in case that makes a difference. The model number is the same though. *** There are a number of machines (laptops mostly) which knock around in my rented flat, and a couple of years ago, I was looking for a decent ADSL router which would meet the bill. This isn't the first one I bought - but I soon got rid of the other one and replaced it with this one, and have been happy about it ever since. This comes well-packaged up, and is fairly simple to setup and install. Simply follow the instructions and plug it into the ... more

Advantages Advantages speed, size, looks, ease of use, router AND modem in one

Disadvantages Disadvantages The launch of the DG834GT 108Mbps

** There is a glossary at the end of the review for the minor jargon used within** APPEARANCE --------------------- The DG834GT is sleak, lightweight, minimalist and versatile. Its silver casing makes the box reasonably stylish and it's designed so that you can affix it to the wall or sit it in a cabinet. SETUP --------------------- It truly is a case of plug and play. You simply attach the device to your phone socket with a normal modem wire via an ADSL filter and the rest is childsplay. Provided you have a wireless card in your laptop/PC (often included as a special offer in sales package) ... more

The following review is based on both my own personnel usage of the Netgear DG834G router and also as a tool in a business environment. Firstly let me tell you what is included within this device and then why I chose it for both environments. This device is made up of the following – an ADSL MODEM, 4-port Switch, Wireless Access Point and Firewall. Bear this in mind when making a purchase – if you don’t want all of these facilities NetGear and other manufacturers make other products such as a model that does not include the ADSL MODEM. From a business point of view we had to deploy Broadband ... more

I already have a NETGEAR DG834G router. I would like to connect a Blu-ray player to this wirelessly.

Except for the samsung 4600 which has wifi built in and not wanting to use a cable across my room, what do i need to use in the back of a blu-ray machine to get them to "speak" to each other wirelessly. I was after one of those youtube ready blu-rays machines. After googling, i think i need a "bridge" thingy that gamers use? is there any you would recommend? Cheers 4 your time.
