WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point

Advantages: Good features, repeater and bridging modes
Disadvantages: Minor installation problem

Here's the story. I have an existing wireless network. The access point is in the office in the loft. I have a laptop I wander around with (as you do) and there is a PC on the ground floor. On a good day with a strong wind, the downstairs PC gets a weak to medium connection. All too often though it is intermittent or fails completely. Web browsing is quirky and the whole experience is less than satisfactory. The bottom line is that despite being well within the theoretical range for wireless devices, there are just too many walls, floors and sundry other obstacles getting in the way. There are several things you can do do improve the signal but most are more suited to open spaces. One option that would help in this situation is to use a pair of access points in repeater mode. After a quick look around, Netgear's WG602 looked like ...

Review of Netgear WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point

WG302, connect me up before you gogo

Advantages: Good coverage, twin Antenna, easy to use interface
Disadvantages: None

As a basic descrition, the WG302 is a bit of kit that is used to extend a network by means of wireless technology. e.g. to allow you to connect a wireless laptop to the network. I have recently purchased multiple sets of these wireless access points for our business network. The first thing that you have to say about a WG302 is the build quality. When you pick one up it feels like it is in fact a part from a land rover. Strong and durable. Netgear seem to have mastered the art of making business products that are actually suitable for the job. I have configured our WG302's primarily as main access points to our network for our visiting users. There isn't much you need to do to get up and running as long as you have a little advance knowledge of how to configure a wireless network. Netgear configuration interfaces are legendary ...

Review of Netgear WG302 802.11g ProSafe Wireless Access Point

Stay Away!

Advantages: Works as well as the consumer model
Disadvantages: Works NO better than the consumer model

This unit has been unreliable: many lost connections; oddities like being able to authenticate with only one wireless device at a time; even while authenticated, cannot ping the LAN. One day it all looks great, the next day there are problems. I bought three of these units with 9db antennae. I bought a 27/7 service contract with a next business day product replacement. One case was 'escalated' only to learn, after FOUR weeks, that it s incomaptible with Windows CE5.0. I then determined that one unit was faulty; they issued an RMA. Despite the next business day turnaround per the contract, it has been three days, and they've told me that it has been backordered. Frankly, I would caution you to consider whether to do business with Netgear at all. ...
