Advantages: Not limited to using on a pc slot can use it on both laptop and desktop pc's. Disadvantages: Can drail battery power.
...I bought this to use with my Netgear DG834G router and I must say it's excellent. Not only can I use it on my laptop but as it's usb on desktop computers as well. This makes it handy when I have other people round with there computers I can connect them to my network and give them internet access.

This comes packaged along with a CD to install the relevant drivers and some software to pick up on signals from the router to establish a connection to the Internet. It's all pretty straight forward and shouldn't be too much of a problem to install, the instructions are quite clear and the only thing you could really mess up on is plugging the USB stick in...
