On here to help other consumers make the right choice of products to buy, and not make the same mistake I have in buying rubbish, also I use other members information on judging what to buy for me.

When I first heard of this product, I really wasn't convinced. First of all Netgear's claim that it can operate at 270mb which is more than 2 times that of a standard home/office 10/100mb network and a good deal more than my old 54g (30mb+/-) router's speed, had to be tested. Secondly this was in draft N standard, meaning that it is not yet been made official or standard, so how would it perform in my own home? I just had to try it.......
First thing you will need if your after the speed this router provides, is to get yourself a compatible Netgear WN311BPCI card or one of the netgear RangeMax usb sticks, as there is no way you would hope to get the full speed on another manufacturers card, you may, but why take the risk of purchasing?
So with this router and a compatible card your all set. I am assuming you already have the compatible card installed and working otherwise we cannot test this router's wireless connection.
Installation of the router is pretty straight-forward from the provided CD and you follow it's easy setup guide. This takes you through the configuration of the whole router starting first with it's SSID name, it's WEP WPA security settings and your internet connection details...etc.. I like the fact that this is all done for you with the easy setup wizard. As soon as you have internet connection, the routers firewall automatically protects you from the internet nasties but you may wish to have a software firewall enabled as a security backup, for this I enabled the Windows XP firewall which works flawlessly with the router. On some software firewalls they can constantly bug you but not the windows one. Next you may wish to tweak the router settings, which is all displayed down the left hand side of it's configuration page which is normally found at http://192.168.0.1
On the windows icon, I am getting 270mb which drops to 240mb at night (when the wireless signal gets weaker), thats brilliant when you consider that SSID radio name is hidden, WPA2 is enabled, and MAC filtering is enabled. My signal is so strong I can even pick up my neigbours wireless network, which I could never do before.
Alll in all a great wireless router, with plenty of features and extras, such a network streaming files all over ther house, as its capable of streaming music and tv (at the same time!!) from your bedroom pc into your living room downstairs!!
I am still trying mines out and testing it. I would recommend you buy this fantastic piece of kit as it's future-proof technology !
