WHAT DOES IT DO?
This is a Wireless Access Point which is a device that is a communication hub for a person in possetion of a wireless device to connect to a wired LAN. It gives the option for everyone in a network to work from wherever they wish. You will gain High-speed wireless access that’s Almost 10 times the coverage of standard 802.11g technology.
PROS?
Convieniantly plugs into your exsisting router. Can Boost your wireless business networks with the help of RangeMax. Easier to set up than some other Products of this type avaliable. Can reach wireless coverage of up to 500,000 square feet. No need to get rid of exsisting Wireless devices. Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) technology, For enhanched security. Data speeds of up to 108 Mbps
CONS?
Was harder to set up than initial thoughts. I wasted time trying to get this into repeater mode only to discover that a firmware upgrade is needed. This product like many others came strait out of the box with substandard firmware. I had to search the internet to find out how to get this to pick up the router's signal. i feel this product should of come with more in-depth instructions.
Alltho netgear does not have the best repretation when it comes to customer satisfaction, I have allways felt that the products i have ordered in the past have been of the best quality and have had no major problems up until now. The Lack of any in Depth instructions with this product would make it very hard for someone with little router knowledge to set this up.
Value For Money?
It is true that since this products release it hads gone down in price a fair bit. however i feel that thier are many other low cost solutions out there that do pretty much everything ( if not more ) that this product does.
System Requirements - Broadband (cable/DSL) router with Internet service and Ethernet port - 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g wireless adapter. Alternatively, an Ethernet adapter and cable for each computer - Windows® 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, Mac® OS, NetWare®, UNIX®, or Linux® - Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape® 4.7 or higher
Package Contents - NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless Access Point WPN802 - 12V, 1.0 A power adapter, localized to country of sale - Ethernet cable - Vertical stand - Setup Guide - Resource CD - Warranty/Support information card
In Conclusion I would not recomend this product to anyone with little router knowledge or for someone who is setting up thier own home network as there are many better Quality and loww cost solutions for you out there, However if you need a wireless access point i would go for another NETGEAR product as i have had not problems with them in the past.
