Wii Remote Controller

The unit is very responsive and works very well, this depends on where you put the sensor that is supplied with the wii so make sure that you read the manual carefully. But once you get it set up correctly the remote works fantastically.

The package came with Wii sports and a remote controller and i have to say that i was quite impressed. The controllers work well with the console and in particular with wii sports. The biggest issue that i have with the remote is the battery issue. Whilst the batteries do last a long time when installed, to keep replacing them costs a fortune. I also have had this problem with my xbox 360 wireless controllers and would recommend anybody who was buying the controllers to also consider a quick charge kit to accompany it.

The remote is well built and you can feel the quality as soon as you take it out of the box. My controller has taken quite a pounding already after accidentally being hit against just about every piece of furniature that i own. It must have been in the mind of the designer that if you have a remote that has to be moved around to function it is bound to end up being accidentally banged against things. This is obviously one of the pillars of thought whilst designing the remote.
The remote looks very stylish and feels comfortable in the hand, it does not appear to have a great deal of ergonomic design features so it could be possible that long term use of some games could cause discomfort. Unlike the xbox 360 control pads(textured finish), the wii remotes have a smooth shiny finish, this can make the controllers slippery if you are playing for long periods and your hands begin to sweat. However using the wrist straps that are provided will prevent dropping the remotes onto the floor.
The remotes are not particularly easy to use for a novice, they do take a bit of getting used to. The controls obviously depend on the game that you are playing. With an optimum setup the controllers work extremely well. It is quite tough to play certain games on a small tv screen however that is an issue for another review.
The range of use is good i can operate mine from the other side of the room. This is handy as the games do require a fair amount of room to play, especially if there are four people playing!
The manual that is supplied with a incredibly detailed manual that is very thourgh in its explanation of resolving problems. I had a problem when i took my remotes over to a friends house and they wouldnt work when i returned home. I had to re-configure the remotes to work with my console, the manual showed me how to do this quickly and easily.
The price of the unit is around £30, which i feel is too much, but nowadays this would seem to be the norm with all of the next gen consoles pads costing the same.
Overall the remotes are pretty essential, and four remotes at a party is a huge amount of fun. i would recommend that every wii console has at least two to compliment it.
Advantages: Very Fun, Innovative and just an excellent item! Disadvantages: Non-Rechargeable (out of the box).
Nintendo Wii Remote Review By Vaza
INTRODUCTION
The Nintendo Wii Remote, dubbed “Wiimote” by many, is the main controller for the Nintendo Wii Games Console. The Controller uses motion sensing technology which changes the way “wii” play gaming. You can point, wave, twist and more with this amazing and innovative controller.
DESIGN
The Wii Remote, as the name implies, uses the shape of a Television remote to familiarise itself with non-gamers. ... ...the smart and well-thought-of design, Nintendo has created a controller that can be used by anyone, and something that makes playing games even more enjoyable. Why use an analog stick to aim when you can just point and shoot?
The Wii remote also show’s which controller your remote is assigned to, whether you are player 1 to 4 is shown here. You can also press any button on the remote while the console is off to check the battery, the lights will ...

...hard to believe that the Nintendo Wii has been unleashed to the European market for well over a year now, and I was one of the lucky few to hold the console on day one. I remember a slightly younger version of myself excited as though it was christmas day, although it was a few weeks previous. One of the first things I wanted to do was tell the internet all about it, and some may remember my original Wii remote review. Now, with 14 months experience ... ...of urine jokes. Once again Nintendo fought back by claiming the title of the console, Wii, represented the idea of playing together. You know they say he who laughs, laughs loudest, and that statement could not be more true as Nintendo have already succeeded in killing off this 'console generation war' by designing a product everybody wants. ===http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=60913===

Advantages: Easy to use and set up, simple controlls Disadvantages: Needs batteries, can be sent flying
...is an easy way for Nintendo to make a bit of extra cash as they retail for a joint price of around £41. The price has come down slightly since it was first released but it still seems slightly on the expensive side. The Wiimote works in a series of different ways. With the use of an internal intelligence system it can tell which way the Wiimote is being held, either vertically or horizontally and also detects the movements being made. Obviously this ... ...works incredibly well and as Nintendo are coming up with more and more little additions to make the Wiimote a little easier to use, such as a protective padded cover and rechargeable battery pack. The Wiimote can also be used with a variety of different attachments like the steering wheel for Mario Kart and the Guitar for Guitar Hero. All in all despite the price of £28 for just the Wiimote it is a very good control system that really emphasises ...

...supplied when you purchase the Nintendo Wii.
I don't think its much to look at, but here is a case where form followed function. It appears to be a pretty average remote control pad but it's far from that.
It consists of 8 buttons on the top:
- Power on/off
- Direction pad
- Button A
- '-' Button
- Home Button
- '+' Button
- Button 1
- Button 2
As well as the Button B on the underside.

(It might be able to sense more, but I've yet to see any games with more than four players available on the Wii). Essentially you can twist, swing, slice, point with your Wii Remote and thus it has numerous possibilities to represent various objects in a game. For example in Wii Sports, it is a Tennis Racquet, Baseball Bat, Bowling Ball, Golf Club and it ...

Advantages: motion sensing technology Disadvantages: button control
...the primary controller for the Nintendo Wii. Its main unique feature is its ability to sense motion, allowing the infamous on screen interaction in Wii games. The Wii remote is an interesting device. On the plus side, it is innovative and brave, like nothing that's gone before it. The optical sensor inside it allows for extremely realistic and accurate use: it acts on screen exactly as it does in your hand, which is VERY impressive. This is true ... ...away from the screen, which is mind boggling but great. It just shows how close we are to complete virtual reality games (exciting). On the negative side, the shape is rather difficult to use easily - the grip you have to take only allows your thumb to navigate the main panel of buttons, which is more difficult than if it were your index finger. This, along with the cramped buttons, sometimes results in pressing (for example) the pause button during ...

Advantages: cool looking controller with so many extras and ways to use it! Disadvantages: certainly not cheap, but not too expensive either
The wii was the latest console released by Nintendo and over the past year has been a fierce competitor with the likes of the xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. It was released late 2006 and after being out for over a year now it can be seen in thousands of homes across the nation with everyone getting up on their feet and being active with this great console where everything is interactive. However nothing can be done with the console without the core controller the "wiimote" as it has been nicknamed. The wiiremote controller is your key to start playing and to start playing a variety of great games from Zelda to Call of Duty or Pro Evolution soccer in which everything in the game is based and designed upon this wireless and motion sensor controller!
Every Wiiconsole of course comes with one of these great controllers.

Manufacturer's product description
To make gaming as accessible to people of all ages and all abilities, Nintendo wanted to create a controller that was as inviting as it was sophisticated. The outcome is the Wii Remote controller. Nintendo fused the familiarity of a remote control with the sophistication of motion-sensing technology to come up with an input device for the ages!Sporting the size of a traditional remote control, the wireless Wii Remote controller is a multifunctional device that is limited only by the game designer's imagination. In a tennis game, it serves as your racket you swing with your arm. In a driving game, it serves as your steering wheel. For first-person shooters, the remote acts as your weapon that you point at an enemy. The list of potential uses goes on and on.Using Bluetooth technology, the wireless Wii Remote controller sends your actions to the Wii console from as far as 30 feet away. As a pointing device, the controller can send a signal from as far as 15 feet away. Up to four Wii Remote Controllers can be connected at once, making for some great multiplayer fun!
