I really like this new design of thermometer. It's really sleek and nice looking with it's shape being like a penguin I think it's a great twist on a thermometer.
One of the first ways to tell if your baby is poorly is by checking it's temperature. Checking the temperature in time in some illnesses can be the best prevention of further complications and so the majority of parents have a thermometer in their bathroom cupboards for just this reason.
The shape and style is based on a penguin which is supposed to come across as less intimidating for your children and I think it's a great idea! It's tall and slender with slightly wide 'feet' at the base and a wing carved into it. It is white and blue and the shape of it makes it very easy to hold- with the penguin design now effecting it's practicality.
It takes 1 second to do the reading and it doesn't beep it is completely silent which is great as it doesn't have to disturb your child if he/she is asleep! It also has the ability to recall 10 past temperatures so you can track the changes of temperatures over the day/s which is a great idea.
As well as checking body tenmperature it can also check the temperature of liquids and in the air so you can use this for checking how hot your food is etc too although primarily it is designed to be used in your child's ear so maybe best to invest in some form of baby wipe with antibacteria in it so as to clean it properly first although it does come with disposible probes too so you can just throw one away and add a new one!
The display is easy to read and shows both farenheit and centigrade and has an automatic shut off function after 1 minute which is a great idea as I was always running down batteries by forgetting to turn mine off before! Talking of batteries... this uses AA batteries and they last a long time according to the box although I've not had mine long enugh to test this myself!
i would definitely recommend it as it's a unique design which definitely helps to take away the element of apprehension young children have when they feel poorly and are being poked and prodded. It is also really easy to use which is what you need when your child is not well.
It costs £25 and is available from online stores. I got mine from Amazon. I'm not sure if it is available in the shops though but would imagine if so then Boots and mothercare would be the best places to check.
