Keep a careful eye on them
Advantages Internet always on - convenient
Disadvantages NTL
I have been with NTL for 5 years. The service has been good - not outstanding, but no major outages or problems.
However, NTL services do not come cheap and once you are a customer you will not be offered any preferential deals or price cuts, so once the attractive sign-up offer is over, you pay full price for everything. In May 2006 I realised that if I changed my services to other providers I could get all the services for less than half the price I was paying NTL. So I decided what I wanted and rang NTL disconnections.
After a 25 minute wait on the phone, I was offerred 10 meg BB, phone and select package TV for 27 pounds a month ongoing (a deal that I was told was 'just for me', 'don't tell anyone else!!')Checking my bank statements I realised that after the first month, NTL started increasing the amount they were taking by direct debit. Last month they took in the region of 70 pounds!
On realising this I immediately rang NTL to sort the matter out. After 90 minutes on the phone (!) NTL agreed to refund me £130. I got this confirmed by email at the time of the call. I am now getting select TV, phone and 2MB BB for £22 a month. This offer I have in writing. I will now keep a close eye on my DDs and any increase will be refunded immediately under the DD guarantee. If you think NTL is good value, remember to keep an eye on your bank statements.
If you want NTL, you can get TV, Phone and BB for £22. Quote my review, and shout loudly if necessary!
