NTL World, a great service at a very very low price.
I aquired NTL world aound Feburary 2002 time, when I was moved to them from Cable and Wireless. When I first had NTL world, i was quite surprised to find that it was completely free, yet the service was excellent aswell.
After this though, I suffered from many connection problems and despite VARIOUS emails to NTL, they only replied once, and this was in a useless email. After a few weeks though, the connection seemed to be working again. I am sorry to say though, that NTL's customer service is terrible.
I continued using the connection once all of the problems had gone, and enjoyed fast, free internet access once again. Unfortunately around March 2002, we were emailed saying that you needed to pay £5 a month to keep your free internet access. Naturally we coughed up the money, because compared to the slow, unreliable internet access offered by FreeServe and AOL for around £15 (£10 more) it seemed like a good option.
As we later found out, it was a good option and I regularly enjoy laughing at people I know, when they reconnect to MSN 4 or 5 times an hour due to their very slow and unreliable AOL connections. NTL world only becomes disconnected every 2 hours, and I feel is very good because of this.
As for speed, NTL world is quite fast. Using a 56k modem and the 56k service, the internet runs at almost the same speed. It is connected at 52kb/s at the moment, which is good enough for browsing and loading images. Downloading can take ages though, and if the NTL Broadband services are as reliable as this modem connection, i would recommend going to them, never the less, i have done a 200meg download in less than a week. (this is much quicker than other isp's!)
Connecting to the internet is easy, takes a short time, and is done through the NTL World Gearbox program, similar to AOL's browser. Fortunately, you can close the connection program once connected and open up other windows in Internet Explorer. This is good, and allows people who know nothing...about anything to connect to the net easily.
Overall, NTL World is an excellent service, with an extremely fast bandwidth, and a low monthly cost. I would recommend it to anyone who wants the internet. The only thing that lets them down is their customer service.
I would recommend you get NTL broadband - I have had it for the last 9 months. It cost 14.99 for 24/7 surfing and instant access - no waiting for dial up and you can upgrade to the fater speed online for another £10 per month.I'm going to write an opinion with all the details... hopefully it will be of some help to you.

I looked into getting NTL broadband before signing up with BT Openworld, but although they have cables in the area, apparently they are very out of date and they have no plans to upgrade. Still, you are getting bargain.
