Until about 3 months ago i had been with Worldonline. That was until i got an e-mail saying that the next time i connected i would have to re-subscribe for free to change to the new company that took them over (Tiscali). Well OK i thought. Anyaway, i connected then following day and sure enough up coms the new details page, excelpt it wouldnt let me enter my old worldonline username, so I was stuck without the internet. I decided to find out about NTLWorld seeing as I have my phone line with them. "Sorry this service is being upgraded and will be available on....." bugger. So i very quickly found another free provider (free-online) and used them for a few weeks until NTLWorld was available.
As soon as NTLWorld was back up and running i received by CD, and was very eager to get going. So I opened the CD, put it in the drive and up comes a lovely flash introduction. I clicked through all of this until it came to the "What service do you require?" screen. I chose the NTLWorld Unlimited service for £10 a month. This gives unlimetd use (surprising that!) any time of the day, but only for 2 hours at a time. This can be a little annoying, but its simply a case of reconnecting.
NTLWorld uses software very similar to that of AOL. It's called a connection gearbox. This is the "gateway" to the internet. You basically launch it, it does some checks to make sure everything is working ok (only takes a second or so), then connects you. Once connected it automatically checks your NTLWorld e-mail account and tells you if you have new mail. I personally find this very useful, as it saves you opening outlook only to find you have no new e-mails. If you are a relativly experienced user then you wont like the internet interface (nothing like Internet Explorer), but no worries, you can simply close this screen and use IE or Netscape.
This has to be the fastest dial-up service ive ever used, and at the same time, one of the most reliable. Ive never had a dropped connection, and although it only connects at 44'000 kb/s, i get download speeds sometimes well in excess of 5k/sec. This is not to be sniffed at considering most others ive used are lucky to get 3.5k/sec. Ive never had a problem connecting, always logging on first time, so cant complain there either.
You get 10MB of webspace included, along with 5 free e-mail addreses, so not too bad, and should suit the average family.
Ive used them once because I had to re-format my computer and lost my username and password. Its a premium rate line, and i phoned at midnight. The phone was answered straight away and i had my username and password within 30 seconds, so top notch service!!
If you are looking for a new ISP, then i fully recommend NTLWorld as a service for anyone looking for a dial-up provider, and at only £10 a month, it's cheaper than most other companies offering the same service.
Ive just had my first problem with NTLworld. Basically i pay monthly by direct debit, but i had my card stolen, so obviously i cancelled it and re-ordered one. This i thought would not affect my direct debit as its the same account number, sort code etc, but o how wrong was I! I got an e-mail saying that they had not been able to take payment, and that I would be disconnected if I did not pay within 2 days of reciept of this e-mail. Whoa! What the #£$%. I phoned and settled the balance straight away, but I have to say, the fact that I was'nt warned a little earlier (like when they actually treis to take the payment!) I found slihghtly annoying.
Ive heard these are great value for money, and so are BT. Good op. Phil :)

Given a VH , although your op is not entirely factual . Existing customers of NTLworld , have a reduced rate of £5.00 per month until 2003 . You could also have mentioned the other package options available . Furthermore Gearbox is not required , as you can dial direct using Mac/Pc to the 0800 number.
