There are so many different makes and model on the market that it can become confusing to decide which make and model to buy. I am an online gamer in my spare time. I like to tinker around with the hardware I buy to see if i can get faste speeds than it was made to run. I have overclocked it without buying extra cooling hardware to more than what is normal and it still runs like a dream. when I first started playing Grand Theft Auto IV I would get 13.7 frames per second. Considering the game needs 30 FPS to run smoothly my card did not work well.
I clocked the card to:
GPU 580 MHZ = increase of 120 MHZ Memory Clock 460 MHZ = increase of 110 MHZ Shader Clock 1524 = increase of 412 MHZ
My max temperature on this stock card with no overclocking is 58 degrees, overclocked 76 degree. I have an increase in GTA IV of 15 frames per second. Instead of giving me 13.7 fps I now get 28.7 frames per second.
My friend uses a Geforce 8600GTS and his stock output for GTA IV is 32 FPS. His card cost £22 more than mine. For anyone who likes to overclock, the NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS is a great card.

As an overclocker gaming performance can be gained without having to spend lots of money. I would recommend for gaming to buy one with a fan on it. The cards without fans are very bad for overclocking. Stay away from fanless Geforce 8400GS's as they crash when overclocked. gaming cards equal fans. Desktop Publishing = Fanless
An all round good quality low cost and low voltage gaming card.
Advantages: Very Cheap, easy to install, Nividia branded Disadvantages: Dont run directX 10, isnt the top of the block.
...what you want from it, nvidia offers a wide range, from the top of the market to its cheaper options like this one. And if you are looking for a cheap graphics cards to run some games that use DirectX9 look no further. If you want to play HD games such as call of duty 4 and GTA 4 then i reccomend going for the 6500gt or even the 295FX for top gaming.
The card is easy to install with Nividia great customer support if you need help, becuase your buying ...

there lies two USB ports, D-sub, Ethernet port, a four pin 'firewire' port and the splendidly useful 8-in-1 cards reader.
Also, there is the DVD drive.

Advantages: Beautiful, Fast, Sturdy, Good graphics. Disadvantages: Heavier than some.
seamlessly. Vista is a little hard to get used to in the beginning but you soon get the hang of it. It will also cope with demanding applications and games thanks to its built in 128MB nVidiaGeForce8400M GS. Although this takes away from your battery life it truly enhances the functionality. I play Half Life 2 with no difficulties.
I mentioned the battery life, on power saver mode (setting in vista) the battery lasts around 3 hours whilst word processing or browsing the internet. Turning of the wifi switch, which is a handy feature of the laptop, will further improve this batter life. I should also mention I am using the 6-cell 56WHr, so the laptop using the 85WHr battery will be more bulky but perfect for extended portability.
