Being short on cash and looking to upgrade to a reasonably powerful card I bought a GeForce2 MX400 64Mb with TV-out. The drivers that shipped with it were very old but a quick visit to NVidias... more

There are graphics cards, and then there is the GeForce range of cards, which is generally regarded a cut above the rest, and in my opinion, rightly so. Originally, the new GeForce 2 cards cost the best part of £500 and were out of most peoples price range, but since the release of the superb Geforce2 MX cards available from a range of manufacturers, this has changed the market completely, and brought high performance gaming to an affordable level so that its not only the ‘rich kids’ that can buy a card that would suit any spec PC. Costing anything between £75-£150, this card is serious value ... more

Geforce 2 MX - An Overview The MX Range now come in several flavours: -The Original MX -The MX200 (Basically an original) -The MX400 -Any of the above with a TV-Out The MX 200 cards can be found for as little as £25 on eBay and For Sale forums. Now I bought my first Geforce 2 MX when they first came out, which was a long time ago in computer time. I paid £112 for it, and this was a lot for me back then. I was running an AMD k62-300 system at the time, and when I was upgrading from a combination of a standard PCI graphics card and a Voodoo 2. The results pleased me a lot, I was in awe of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Doddle to install, fast, no hassles

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Pseudo-English manual

Oh this is a new subject - never written a hardware review before, but here goes... I've had a PC for ages now (about 10 years at last count) and anyone with a machine that old would be hard pushed to find any of the original components, and my machine is no different. New cases, new motherboards, new this, new that - upgrade heaven. So everything is working fine, it's filled with wonderful pieces of kit and then I discover to my horror that it's not at all happy running OpenGL apps. Not being a hard core gamer (programmer/artist instead) I'd never noticed how slow it was at 3D games but it ... more

Advantages Advantages fast, a lot of RAM, TV-OUT

Disadvantages Disadvantages "only" SD RAM, passive cooling (becomes very hot), there are better cards... ;-)

...but for all others... About 3 weeks ago I bought an nVidia GeForce 2 MX200 graphics card with 64 MB of SD RAM and an TV-OUT port. I paid roundabout 55 Pounds. I was afraid to hold this card in my hands. Until that day I only had an ATI 3D Rage Pro with 8 MB of RAM... Not so very good for games like “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” or “Serious Sam”... I only needed a better graphics card in order to have more fun playing my favourite game: “Diablo 2” The whole time I had to set the graphic details to the minimum settings. And even then the game was filled ... more

I bought my Abit Siluro Geforce 2mx graphics card a few months ago now, and I havent regretted it at all since. The card is based on the Nvidia Geforce 2 chip, albeit a cut-down version using cheaper memory. This cheap memory is the main performance-limiting factor on the card, but this can be improved. The Abit card I bought comes with software that allows you to overclock both the core and memory on the card. This increases the speed, but also the heat so care must be taken. The card has 32mb of memory, which is more than sufficient for all of the current games (although 64mb cards are ... more
