I have always yearned for long nails, but alas it was not to be. I had considered getting false nails put on at a salon, but the cost (over £30) and the time taken to put them on (around 2 hours) as well as all the maintenance put me off. Also my lifestyle does not lend itself to having long nails all the time (I have a horse, so mucking out with long nails is not really an option). I had also tried glue on false nails, but found them tricky and messy to apply.
On a trip to Boots I noticed a pack of Nailene Quick French Self Stick Nails and thought I would give them a try. They cost £7.25 and come in about 4 different colours all based around a natural french polished look. They also do a couple of decorated nails in red and pink with a jewel on each nail.
I bought Peach Americana which is a french polished style nail with a peachy sparkly poish. You can also get Natural, Pink Shimmer and Peach Shimmer. The nail itself is slightly rounded at the tip and not overly long, just about half a centimeter past the tip of your finger. Each pack comes with 24 nails so that every size finger can be matched.
Its important to follow the instructions on the pack. The first time I wore the nails I followed the instructions to a T and the nails lasted for the full 3 days. They never felt like they were going to come off. The second time I wore them I just stuck the nails on without removing the polish from my own nails and the nails gradually started falling off throughout the evening until I pulled the rest off.
The instructions are quite simple:
1. Use acetone nail polish remover to clean your nails first
2. Lightly buff nail surface to remove shine
3. Select a self stick nail for every finger by holding slightly above natural nail to match width.
4. Carefully place self stick nail up to but not touching cuticle. Firmly press self stick nail onto natural nail.
After you have applied them you may have to file the nails slightly to remove a few rough edges from the tips. After application they should last for up to 3 days and if on the off chance one of the nails does come off (when I applied them correctly none of the nails came off) you can either hold the nail under a hairdryer and then reapply, or use one of the spare nails left over.
To remove the nails all you have to do is soak in warm water for 10-15 minutes and then gently peel off the nail. Unlike false nails applied at a salon these nails do not damaged your own nails.
Overall these nails are easy to apply and a great price. Perfect for special occassions.
Advantages: easy to apply Disadvantages: can't think of one
I have awful nails, they are so easily broken and I don't have that much time to take great care of them, also like most people I have a tendancy to bite them!
I have now started to rely on false nails, they are great for all sort of occasions.
Nailene's quick french self stick nails, come in four different styles Natural, peach americana, pink shimmer and hearts. I have only used the natural ones though, which are your basic french manicure. There ... ...starters, ever lost a false nail during a night out?, leaving your real nail covered in glue and looking a bit gross (could just be me) , well with self stick nails this does not happen, even when they nails are removed there is no way of knowing that you ever had false nails on. Before a night out, i usually have to have an extra hour to apply my nails, but theres no need for that anymore, less than five minutes it took me and the only steps i took ...
