This model is not as complex or accomplished as the big Naks of the past, but gives them a run for their money sonically. It is directly descended from the likes of the CR 7 and Dragon and employs their renowned discrete three head design (where the record and playback heads are separated for better sound quality).
It still sounds better than any other brand, including the likes of Revox, Teac, Yamaha and Tandberg.
It will beat any other recording format for sound, other than the best CDR or HD recorders (forget MP3, Minidisc or computer based CD burners), and just goes to show how capable the humble cassette could be when properly engineered. It is not far off the ablilities of professional open-reel machines - which is what master tapes were recorded onto after all.
Solid bass, stable speed, good Dolby implementation, great imaging - but very unforgiving of bad recordings.
Remote control is only available via a system controller in one of the Nakamichi amps or receivers.
