Advantages: Naughty but with plot and feeling Disadvantages: A happy but predictable ending
...I found this book to be a refreshing exploration of sexual identity and preference as well a truly entertaining read. There is a surprising honesty about the feelings Nancy experiences and I am sure that anyone who has had to come to terms with their sexuality in an unaccepting world will be able to relate to some of the characters and their experiences. Compared to other Sarah Waters' books such as Affinity, Tipping the Velvet is more openly a lesbian novel, with the sexuality of the characters and love between Nancy and the women she forms relationships with being the main focus throughout the book.
It's well written and deviously descriptive; there's love, betrayal, history, secrets, lies and deliciously naughty sex. What more could you want?!

Advantages: Great read Disadvantages: Predictable ending
...This long-awaited (and long-delayed) solo novel from regular Buffy co-author, Nancy Holder was a great read. The story was very interesting, the writing was great and it was generally a very enjoyable novel. This novel was delayed for about a year as it tackled the subject of shootings in schools which is a huge problem in America but after a few re-writes, the story is now suitable and sees all the residents of Sunnydale becoming more unpredictable with people having outrages including Willow!
However, at the same time each of Buffy's friends are disappearing and Buffy soon finds out that a powerful vampire who once knew Angel is after the slayer and is using her friends to get to her....
