Nastro Azzuro is most easily compared with the UK king of premium lager: Stella Artois.
To many Stella is a 'wife-beater' cocktail of chemicals and alcohol and Nastro a posh beer associated with Italian restaurants. And this is true. To an extent.
Nastro Azzuro's most distinguishing feature is its apparently clean taste. Compared to Kronenbourg, Grolsh and Stella it has a distinctly refreshing taste. This suggests a taste similar to a Germanically styled, chemically limited beer, but it is infact far different.
To my mind Nastro should be grouped with the common premium lagers found in England, but as something of a gem. At 5.1% it has a taste that will satisfy even the most bloody-minded strong beer fan (such as myself) but because the alcoholic taste is relatively subtle it can also appeal to those who appreciate the more moderate lagers. Possibly imagine a positive cross between Carlsberg and Stella.
For all my praise of this lager it is somewhat difficult to seriously consider it a rival to Stella's crown in the UK. I have never seen it on tap and to buy it in a supermarket is comparatively expensive. It is unavailable in cans, and can cost upto £25 for a crate of bottles.
I recommend it for special occasions and sunny days when u want to imagine a life abroad. For its price it achieves images of exclusivity and through its taste the appeal of accessible quality.

Had this once in a pizzeria and was quite pleased with it - for a lager anyway.

Quite ironic that Nastro Azzurro is one of the cheapest lagers in Italy and so expensive over here.
