INTRODUCTION When i was 12 i decided to open a NatWest Card Plus account as you get a Solo Card meaning i could shop online and in-store at shops which displayed the "Solo" card logo, which most of shops do.
MY EXPERIANCE When i went to apply for a Card Plus Account i did it online first and within less than a week was given a letter telling me to go to a branch to confirm my identity and put my minimum of £1 in to open the account. The staff there were very friendly and helped me with all my questions i gave them :-) The Card Plus account interest Rate is very good at 3.15% AER paid monthly! You also recieve statments monthly, so you know whats going on with your account and can make sure there is no unwanted or fraud transactions on your account. If there is an unwanted/fraud transaction on your account, tell NatWest straight away. Since im only a teenager i can't use there online banking service, which is a let down as it would be nice to know whats happening with my account wen i am indoors and the bank is closed... I used my NatWest Card Plus account for shopping online (its a current account so make sence!), for Savings i have a "Nationwide Smart" account (which i have also written a review on).
SUMMARY Go with NatWest if your going to spend your money online, but if your just saving go with Nationwide.
Advantages: SOLO Debit (Use online and on the highstreet), Online Banking, Lots of cash machines, helpful staff, Maestro debit card facility for abroad. Disadvantages: SOLO is not quite as widely accepted as SWITCH but it's not really a problem - very few banks do not offer debit cards at all to my age group
