BEWARE OF NAT WEST VISA GOLD TRAVEL INSURANCE. I have had the misfortune of trying to claim for cancellation of my holiday in August 08 due to the sudden death of my father who was fit and playing table tennis in a league match when he died. The trauma has been made worse by the company which deals with the NATWEST travel insurance - IGCS: Inter Group Claims Services. They have tried every avenue to find a way not to pay out and made things extremely difficult by demanding letters from my father's GP to give details of his medical condition. To cut long story short, they have turned down my claim since they state that he was in hospital within the last 12 months (in fact he was in hospital in June 07, 14 months before he died but they are saying from when we booked the hol. which was January 08). This clause 13 exemption was written in May 08 after we booked our holiday. To make matters worse my sister and family were booked on the same holiday to Italy and have been paid out in full six weeks ago. Are they really saying that if a member of your family dies forcing you to cancel your holiday, they have to have been in perfect health for the year before?
I am continuing to fight for reimbursement of over £2,000. Will also write to the Financial Ombudsman.
