I used to bank with NatWest, but I moved my account to another bank last year. When I was with them, I had a Solo card. This is basically a debit card which is available to young teenagers (I think the minimum age is 14). It allows you to use your debit card to pay for goods or services anywhere where you see the 'Solo' sign. This includes Pizza Hut, Sketchly's, HMV, Our Price, Argos, Harrods, Marks & Spencer, and several internet sites. It is a good account for teenagers to have as it introduces them into the world of banking and really teaches them how to handle their money. With things like an internet banking option and a telephone banking option, it makes teens feel 'grown up'. The only downside is that the Solo card isn't accepted everywhere (yet) (Debenhams for one, do not accept it).
The opinion is a bit short and not aswell descriptive of some of the other opinions i have read about solo but i have a solo account and think it is really good because i can buy stuff from sites like CD's cheaped than in the shops i think you should read some other opinions and take some ideas about the detail you should put into them...
I didn't realise that it was accepted at the places you mentioned. One of my friends had one and every time we went out we ended up paying for her as no-where accepted Solo. Of course she wasn't a teenager but someone who had been in financial difficulties and was not allowed an overdraft facility. I still see signs in all the supermarkets saying sorry we can't accept Solo.
