I haven't been keen on getting a Navsat system, after all the bad press they have been receiving.
I finally made a decision to purchase one, and the NAVMANF20 seemed good value for money.
Installing the device into the car is really easy, simply attach the simple suction cup holder to a suitable place on the windscreen and plug in the cigar lighter power unit. After answering a few simple questions about the type of roads you like, etc. The systems is up and running.
Not reading the instruction didn't matter a bit. Until I came to inputting the 1st address I wanted to go to. The system is a little slow after keying in the information, so it's important to wait till the screen responses, otherwise it doesn't accept it.
I have found here in Hampshire UK, that there are several problems with the mapping data. It tried to recommend a route via a NO RIGHT TURN, DOWN A ONEWAY STREET the wrong way, but quickly re-routed once I ignored the instruction. There are several roads that have been around for more than 5 years that are not in the mapping.
I looked on the NAVMAN website and found a software kit in the accessories, but no where in the online store could it be found available, so I emailled the Company. Their reply was that the software kit is going to be launched at the end of Jan 2007, which is over a month away. It would have been nice for the website to comment on this.
Removal from the car for security is very simple, and placing it back on to the holder couldn't be easier, and makes a positive clicking sound when located safely.
As for my experiences with the mapping, it's probable that most of the Satnav systems suffer the same, as they are only as good as the map information that they are programmed with.
I have had a few surprises using it setup for SHORTEST ROUTE. I have a good knowledge of hampshire roads, ans thought that I was using most of the shortcuts that were possible. But the F20 has shown me a few new ones too.
I like the speed at which it quickly re-routes you when you don't follow the instructions. These instruction can be just visual, or with either a MALE or FEMALE voice.
I would recommend the AUDIO option, as trying to watch the screen even though at 4.3 inches is a little distracting.
As a unit at the lower end price bracket, a good buy.
Remember this IMPORTANT notation. Satnavs are basically an atlas on the move. So they can suggest routes that are incorrect due to local road priority changes. You still need to be a competant driver and use your own common sense when driving and using them.
I'm looking forward to using it when driving on Holiday in the UK, as I'm hoping it will show me parts of the country that I haven't seen, or would have otherwise missed.
The unit charges from the cigar lighter power supply as you drive, and allows up to 3.5 hours on its own power. Useful if you like walking or hiking once out of the car. You can program your car location, and use the compass mode to assist you back to the car later if you get lost walking.

I'd like SatNav. I havne't got a car, I'd just love to see peoples faces when, whilst walking along through Tesco, they hear "Turn Left!!!". I think that'd be priceless
