The NavMan F20, Firstly remember this is one of the cheapest SatNav systems available right now.
So, what do you get? Ok, you get the little unit itself, lots of instruction books, an in car cigarette charger and a windscreen mount.
This leads me to my first issue of debate, You don't get an indoor charger. I ended up buying one off of ebay for it, for this reaon, The little unit lasts for about 3 hours unplugged, which is pretty good by any standards, for shorter journeys I charge it up and attatch it completely wirelessly, for those longer journeys I use the in car charger! It's not a fault, just something I think should be in the package!
The
F20 itself. This is a great piece of kit, this unit is one of the latest offerings by Navman. Not only does it have the latest technology it is the cheapest. This however doesn't mean it loses alot of features.
The F20 has the latest SiRFstarIII™ ChipSet which means it won't lose it's signal when going in one of those dreaded tunnels. This is great for a good reason, For a decent GPS Fix (this is the point when the F20 searches for the satellites) the unit should be still as to not confuse the little guy, otherwise for the first 10 minutes it'll think your all over the place!! (if your driving through the tunnel and your satnav loses signal it may take a while and alot of confusion for the machine to get back on track, by this time you maybe lost) My friend has the equivalent TomTom system and his loses GPS signal, where as mine stays with me throughout the tunnel, it'll even work in my house which means...ba daaaa... it won't get you lost.
Back On TRACK!! Now this is fantastic, if you take a wrong turn, or decide you want to take a different route, all you have to do is......nothing and NO not make a U-Turn at earliest possible moment like the TomTom would tell you to do! Instead in a matter of seconds, It'll re-route you with no fuss! How Cool and Useful is that!!
Speed Cameras AKA Safety Cameras, Another unique point to make about this unit is that it comes pre loaded with them!! wow, usually you'd have to pay 50.00 quid to start with, but not this, they've got everything covered! when you get close to a camera, it'll bleep at you and tell you how far away it is! (settings can be changed to alert you sooner or later)
The NavMan F20 does what it's supposed to do, excellently. It's not a muddled together, camera, mp3/mp4player, It's a SatNav! and Navigates extremely well.
To search for a location you can search by city, street, area, postcode (8-digits aswell! you can find anywhere!), once you've found you destination by tapping on the bright, crystal clear screen within seconds it's routed you to your "Destination".
So now we're navigating. The unit gives you plenty of warning before a corner, aswell as on screen moving images (2D or 3D I might add).
There is only one bad point to this little beauty. The sound. If you have a noisy car, you'll have to listen up, even on full volume it can sometimes be a little quiet. However in a normal standard car it should be fine for anybody just don't turn your music up too loud. Some systems get louder as your speed increases to compensate for tyre roar (Road Noise) however the F20 doesn't, You can't blame it for one tin fault as everything else is flawless.
Needless to say. This hasn't sent me down any wrong roads, I live in a town with a fair few one way roads and no-right turns. I've read a number of reviews on this item saying that it's sent them down such roads and told them to make right turns etc. However mine hasn't! you have to remember though, a person thats not happy with something will right a horrible review just to say something in revenge or disdain. for these 10 people that do this, remember there are hundreds if not thousands like me, that would normally not write reviews and simply enjoy and use such a fantastic gadget.
You can select male or female voices, and there is a day and nightime function which will change automatically, in the day the screen is bright, the sun is shining and all is cheery, in nighttime mode, the screen dims slightly (takes the glare from you eyes as it's so dark and the theme of the software changes to blue and stars light up the sky in the movind 3D map!!) this is wicked.
All I have to say is....If you want a SatNav system and don't want to pay the earth for useless extras, by this, you WON'T be dissapointed.
