After getting my last sat nav nicked I haven't been keen on getting another system, I finally made a decision to go out and get a replacement one, and the NAVMAN F20 seemed good value for money.
Getting the device into the car up and running is really very easy really, simply attach the simple suction cup holder to a suitable place on the windscreen and plug in the cigarette lighter. Answer a few simple questions about the type of roads you like, etc. the navman is up and running.
I didn't read the instructions, as it looked quite straightforward The only real problem I had was getting a fix on the GPS as you need to fix on to 4 satellites to get a lock on to your location The system is a little slow after entering in the information, so it's best to wait till the screen responses, otherwise it gets a little upset and rejects the information. You can pick from a list of areas through out the UK. Of the maps you want the navman to list This is particularly helpful as if you are only using your sat nav within the area it narrows down
the choice of possible destinations I live in Yorkshire and use my sat nav to deliver my bouncy castles which is practically help full if I have 6 or 7 to deliver in a morning as I can plan my routes much quicker than looking through a paper map at all the different addresses
I have found that, that there are several problems with the mapping data. It tried to recommend a route via No through road one-way streets wrong way and to cap it all off tried to take me through a wooded area on an unsealed road, but it quickly re-routes you once you ignored the instruction. There are a number roads that have been around for more than a few years that are not in the system
Removal from the car to stop it getting nicked is very simple, and placing it back on to the holder easy and makes a positive clicking sound when located correctly
my experiences with the mapping, it's probable that most Satnav systems have the same problem, as they are only as good as the mapping information that they are programmed with.
I have had a few surprises using the nav man like the speed camera warning system you can set this up to identify cameras at different distances, however this is only a radius distance and you need to quickly glance at the screen to see a little picture of where the camera is I have a good knowledge of the roads around west Yorkshire, and thought that I was using most of the shortcuts that were possible. But the F20 has shown me a few new short cuts I like the speed at which it quickly re-routes you when you don't follow the instructions. Instruction can be just visual, or with either a female or male voice.
I would recommend you to use the this voice option, as trying to watch the screen at 4.3 inches is a little distracting.
This is a unit at the lower end market, a very good buy.
It is important to remember Satnavs are basically a mobile atlas so they can suggest routes that not correct due to local road priority changes. You may still need to be a competent driver. Use your own common sense when driving and using them.
This satnav unit charges from the cigar lighter power supply as you drive, and gives you up to 3.5 hours on its own power. Very Useful if you need to use it way from the car you can program your car location, and use the compass mode to assist you back to the carFeatures
