I recently started driving HGV's as a new job, but am useless with directions and map reading. Luckily I started the job just after xmas and had received a Navman F20 as a present.
I think the sat nav is an amazing piece of kit, and has helped me a lot. (And it gives me somebody to talk to whilst I'm driving long distances : ) ).
When I received the present they were on offer for £149.99 at Halfords, but i know they are cheaper at other retailers. The NavmanF20 comes in a small box which contains a 12v DC in car power adaptor, in-car mounting bracket and user manual with installation guide. The instructions were very easy to use, in fact you don't really need them as when you turn it on everything is explained on screen.
On the menu screen there will be six options. My home,(this is obviously your address) New address,(this is where you want to be going) Places of interest, This will list the nearest POI, eg Airport, Cash dispenser, Golf course, Hospital, Place of worship, etc etc.) favourites,(This is all the places you have been to before, and saved them into your favourites menu). Recent addresses(This lists all the places you have been to recently) and preferences.( This is where you can decide how you want the Navman to work, eg Male or female voice, fastest time or shortest distance, brightness of the screen, etc etc.
When you come to enter a new address you want to go to, You just press New address, you will then be given three options. City/Area, Post code and Street. Just press post code and the name of the street you want will programme in with the route you need to take. Sometimes it will show a different street name to the one you have been given, if this happens then you just enter the name of the city or town the street is in and then the street name. You will then be given another three options. Centre of street, house number or intersection(if you press intersection this will list all the connecting roads to the one you want).
If for some reason you can't use the adapter then the battery will last about two hours, but if you turn the volume down and the brightness to about 20% then you will get about another two hours. This can sometimes be a problem because there are no at home chargers for the Navman, but i found a mobile phone charger with the same connection, which works perfectly. I found this at a market but have heard you can get hold of one for about £10 on the Internet.
I Think the Navman F20 is fantastic and has stopped me from getting very lost. Being a HGV driver i found the only thing i had to watch out for was weight restrictions and low bridges, as the sat nav does not recognise these as obstructions. You buy upgrades though that will provide different routes for this problem. Altogether though its an excellent buy.
