~ INTRODUCTION: GEARS OF WAR ~
For many Xbox 360 owners Epic Games' "Gears Of War" has become a much discussed, well loved and often played game. With an original and breathtaking storyline, addictive gameplay and awesome graphics it has stood the test of time ... and the sequel [Gears Of War 2] was one of the most anticipated console game releases of last year.
In my opinion, one of the game's greatest strengths was the characters themselves ... for it is through their eyes that the Gears Of War story is experienced.
~ MARCUS FENIX ~
Within the Gears of War there is the classic formula of Good versus Evil. Our heroes are Delta Squad [an elite unit of soldiers from the Coalition Of Governments] who are the only people brave enough to stand between the relentless onslaught of the Locust Horde and the destruction of humanity itself. Marcus Fenix is a member of Delta Squad although unlike his fellow soldiers he has only recently joined the unit. Fenix has a shadowy past and has recently been released from prison for a crime he feels he didn't commit. The Coalition Of Governments he now fights to protect are the same organisation that he feels betrayed him.
As a main character he is complex ... a fierce warrior and a natural leader who is both foul-mouthed and bad tempered. But he is also very human and wears his heart on his sleeve.
~ THE MARCUS FENIX ACTION FIGURE ~
Neca have created a visually stunning range of Gears Of War action figures and Marcus Fenix was the first figure in this impressive line.
The detail is magnificent and Marcus Fenix looks like he has just walked out of your TV screen and come stomping into your home !!! The COG armour looks authentically battle damaged and blood spattered whilst the figure's facial expression perfectly captures the characters grim and gritty determination. Of course, Gears Of War also introduced some fantastic weapons and the action figure comes complete with a COG Pistol and the infamous Lancer (the half machine gun/half chainsaw weapon that gamers raved about for months).
Standing almost 12 inches high this action figure looks most impressive when displayed ... the attention to detail has effectively captured the character of Marcus Fenix and the stunning visual style of the Gears Of War series.
~ SUMMARY ~
This is an action figure that has been skillfully designed and very well made and would be an ideal gift for anyone who loves the Gears Of War franchise. These figures can be found for around £10 in high street stores such as Game and in more specialist stores such as Forbidden Planet. eBay and Amazon are also great online places to track down Gears Of Wars merchandise.
On a personal note, I am not usually a collector of games based action figures and I certainly would not consider buying any more action figures from Neca's Gears Of Wars range. However, I did buy the Marcus Fenix action figure simply because I love playing Gears Of War and had a feeling that he would look awesome standing next to my Xbox ... which he does !!!
Summary: A tasty looking collectable for hardcore Gears Of War fans !!!
