Need for Speed: Underground is the 11 game in the NFS series.
And i am forced to consider, that pro street has been beaten. I mean, for a serious thrash around the track for instance, with a proper wheel and pedals, Pro street is better.
But for invading cops and big 4x4 rihnos, there is nothing better than the good old Most Wanted physics.
And this brings me to the two best things in the NFS history. Undercover combines Pro street graphics with car damage and Most wanted physics. And as far as i can see, the gameplay as well.
I mean, like Most Wanted, you have to win bosses in higway battles. Well in Undercover, the system is perfected to a point, where you have to wreck the bosses car, instead of beating them head to head.
and as in MW, in undercover you are one man with girls helping you. But at first, the missions dont make any sence. Are you doing your job or just having fun and earning money at the same time?
Keeping it short, Undercover is, as the name says, all about being undercover. A load of cars were stolen from a ship in Tri-city port and you are sent undercover among the local gangs. Taking them out and finding out the robbers is your job. But making lots and loads of cash, for me, was alot more fun.
And this brings me to the first negative aspect about the game. The cut scenes which give you minimal, or no info at all, are short. And soon, I ignored them all together. Only scenes I did notice were the pink slip ones...
And keeping in with the negatives, the next one goes on the MW account. Just like in MW, you really didnt have to ride from event to event. And that is a bit wrong cause it will not make you understand the game physics and thus cutting game time dramatically. I mean, in Underground 2 it was perfect. Riding from event to event, getting to know the city, studying the curves and so on. It was fun.
But all these little negatives are blown away by the massive graphics. I mean, Pro street was good, this is in a different class. Giving about 50% more detail and depth, than pro street, and still manages to play amazingly well with my 2600 Pro Gcard...
And then comes the physics. If you thought Most Wanted was wierd, Undercover is in a totally different zone. I mean, I drove with the TT, Pro level tuning and it cornerd like...I dont know what. for example, I drove 250 kmh and took a 90 degree turn in the city... and there was unnatural grip. and I drove ahead with 230 kmh!!!!!
As a player of all NFS games, I have to say in the end.... Undercover ROCKS!!!!! Its Pro street done right and fun... Most Wanted with Pro Street graphics....Its a match made in EA heaven...
