...price. And I'd bet that SNK is kicking itself right now, if it had knew how much the video gaming industry had grown.
Nevertheless, the Neo Geo found itself a niche market, with those who had the money, a more 'adult' gamer, and those who simply wanted to keep up with technology. The SNK system was far, far ahead of it's competitors at the time, which were the Super Nes and Sega's Megadrive. However the SNK's price stategy let it down big time. ... ...to incorrectly claim that the SNK system was 24-bit. One thing that this arguably led to was the almost complete withdrawal of SNK's promotion for the Neo Geo, rather preferring the games in the arcade to speak for themselves. Besides, the console did very well upon it's release, prompting the SNK punchline 'Bigger, Badder, Better.'
Over the next five years, SNK completely designed the Neo Geo, adding a CD-drive not only to 1) allow more data to ...

...think this is about the SNK Neo Geo Pocket? :-)
Right, well Ive got one of the pale blue ones - they didnt have cammouflage blue when I went to the shops :-((( They're ace! Well worth buying. The games are a bit thin on the ground though, and unfortunately theyre not going to get any thicker, not in this country atleast anyway.
SNK have stopped selling home Neo Geo's outside of Japan now, but they will continue with their Japanese releases (hey, ... ...Still, if you want to play possibly the best version of Sonic on any format, and want the best VS fighting game on any handheld (SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium), then grab one before the shops run out.
Oh, and the batteries for mine have lasted ages! Apparently the running time is 40 hours, and thats for full colour!!! ...

Advantages: Better than a gameboy by far Disadvantages: It's dead in the UK
Advertising is an important aspect in today's market of world video-gaming, so is timing. Of course you've got to have a good piece of kit to sell, but without the first two you're more or less guaranteed failure. You see, the Neo Geo PC (pocket colour) was a very powerful little machine that had some great games - if only a few. And it should of beaten the GBC - or at least rivalled it, after all it did have about 10 times the graphics power and ... ...way to get games for it is through import. It arrived last year and was dubbed by Special Reserve as 'this year's must have' but no-one cared, or at least bothered to care, they all had GameBoy's or GBCs and a good games collection, so the Neo Geo was always going to have an uphill struggle - to convert nearly 20 milllion UK gameboy owners to a relatively unheard of machine is impossible. And so the demise of the super handheld was here.
A great ...

Advantages: 40 hours continous playing time Disadvantages: lack of games
I recieved a NEO GEO POCKET COLOUR for my birthday in March and have been stuck on it since. It has outstanding colour and graphics for a console its size and great sound too. Many of the games are identical to the Mega Drive but considering the size and weight the Neo Geo Pocket Colour comes out above the mega drive any day. I currently own all three game boys, All three Nintendos, a playstation, dreamcast and game gear so I know a good console ...

Advantages: Classic beat-em-up Disadvantages: Now slow and outmoded
...When SFII came out on the SNES, it was big. It was huge. It threatened to blow away all competition from the Sega Megadrive, SNK's Neo-Geo etc., and totally monopolise the computer games market. It was the game that sold more Super Nintendo's than any other. It was far ahead of its time.
Nowadays it may seem incredibly slow, and the graphics are no longer some of the best available on any platform, but it does still have a great place in the computer games market, even if it is only in a historical fashion. The moves are still original and great, and it is still difficult when set at the right difficulty level. One of the original fantastic 1 or 2 player games, it has spawned numerous clones and a myriad of followups, upgrades, EX or Alpha or Beta versions, Turbo editions, editions with more characters along with some of the originals...

Advantages: Sleak design | Compact | See the screen Disadvantages: No headphone output
...Nintendo’s grip on the home consoles may not be as tight as it once was but its domination over the handheld market is still strong. The original GameBoy was launched in 1988 and has gone through a slow but worthy evolution to colour, pocket size and even having little cameras attached to it. There have been many competitors that have tried to dislodge it. The Game Gear by Sega introduced a colour screen but it was marred by poor battery life and distinct lack of quality games. The SNKNeoGeo just didn’t have the software library and, most recently, the Japan only WonderSwan Colour has admitted defeat.
The Gameboy Advance was a fine piece of kit but it was savaged by its biggest criticism; you needed almost perfect light to play the damn thing. The screen, while in nice 32-bit colour, was virtually black in all but the brightest...

Advantages: Fun, original Disadvantages: A bit short
...The NeoGeo Pocket is almost devoid of role-playing games. There's Dark Arms, but that's a bit strange and not a proper RPG. There is also now Biomotor Unitron.
This game is obviously trying to be SNK's answer to Pokémon. That's not to say that it's a bad game, not at all, but it does show who it's aimed at. The story follows that you have a big robot (your Unitron) that you use to fight in tournaments (like the Gyms in Pokémon), as well as out and about the dungeons around the game map. Unlike the Gameboy game, you don't collect Unitrons, but instead collect body parts. These give your robot different abilities and powers. However, you don't just collect them - you also create your own arms to use as weapons in battle!
Fighting is similar to that in Pokémon too, albeit with only one character. You can use one of your...
