Neopets was founded in 1996 by a few men that had nothing better to do. Basically, you have a virtual pet that lives in some fictious land called 'Neopia' - original or what - and you have to buy food, clothes, toothpaste and other pointless items with you NeoPoints. You can earn more NeoPoints - NP - by setting up your own shop and selling your things, and also playing on the stock market.
But, what it the point of this site? It entertains, sure, but for the owners, I mean? How does it make any money? It's a great idea, but surely NeoPets is running at a loss?
I confess, I do have an account, and it's fun to an extent, but I've seen people who play it 24-7. The problem is, building a NeoHome seems to be more interesting than playing football or living their life these days.
Anyway, more about the site... For about ten minutes a day, you can actually have a little fun on NeoPets - check your shop and see if you've made any profits, have a look around the auction house and perhaps add a bathroom to your NeoHome.
The site is very well designed and laid out, and very easy to use. If you have a problem, then customer services are very nice and reply very quickly to queries, and there are lots of halp pages around the site.
Unfortunately, piracy and cheating are becoming ever more popular on the site, but if someone is caught cheating, they are instantly expelled, so that's OK, but somewhat unfriendly!
The pages load very fast, as NeoPets runs on its own server. The graphics are good and the idea is good and is well projected around the site. They seem to have very imaginative staff - an advent calendar popped up at Christmas!
The game is very enjoyable for whole families and people of any age! The problem? It's on the internet - if they produced a CD-Rom of NeoPets it would sell well and make lots of money! And, as a true Neopian would say, :).
