Last week, my father had the chance to buy a new monitor for a system he was building. While installing the OS / Driver software for the newly built computer, I got the chance to assemble and try out the Neovo F 17 model flat screen TFT monitor.
Having only used CRT's in my lifetime, I was unsure of what to expect with this flat screened TFT model prior to opening its box. I'd heard much about them, notably the notoriously high prices and the danger of dead pixels. Despite the ongoing critique I'd heard from various sources, I became confident of the monitors ability upon opening its box. Inside was the screen itself, plus a small instruction booklet and the monitor's stand, plus the monitors video cable, and its power cable.
Compared to CRT monitor models, the Neovo F 17 is very light for a monitor, It weighs in at around 5 Kilograms. While one person would struggle to actually carry an ordinary CRT, that is certainly not the case with this TFT screen. While not exactly light, the monitor can easily be lifted onto a desk or working surface. Its a good advantage and allows for faster set up.
Set up is a similar affair to the F 17's non-flat counterpart. The monitors stand can be easily slotted into the main screen segment. After placing the monitor on the deks rhe monitors video cable (usually with a blue hued socket) is plugged into the graphics card in the assembled tower. The power cable is obviously plugged into an ordinary plug socket.
Aesthetically, the monitor is great. The entire structure is smooth and extremely modern looking. The black colouration is excellently complimented by the gray coloured rim that covers the button area. The monitor boasts the usual buttons, brightness and contrast control, alongside the power on/off switch and the menu button.
Upon booting up the computer, I noticed a definate difference in overall quality of the monitor compared to the CRT models. The screen is wholly flat, not slightly curved like many CRT's out there. This truncates the image quite profoundly. The overall colouration is very rich indeed, while other monitors seem to have a slightly "washed out" feel to their image, this isn't the case with the F 17. The entire display possesses a rather vibrant feel. This isn't to say this monitor has a detrimental effect on a persons eyes. TFT's are useful in that the light it emits does not affect ones eyes anywhere near as profoundly as a CRT monitor.
Performance wise the monitor also excels, the menu function is very clear and easy to operate. If you need to adjust any settings whatsoever it can be done in seconds. Being a 17" display its sure to satisfy most customers. Though if your after a home cinema experience with your PC, you will have to opt for a larger sized (and thus pricier) model. Refresh rate isn't the finest on the market, standing in at a modest 75 Hertz , while certainly not bad, some more demanding users may want to opt for higher end models.
Games wise the monitor suffers somewhat, simply due to the moderately-low refresh rate. First person shooters such as Counter-strike will lose out due to the monitors lack of power. Despite this, the monitor performs brilliantly for the price, the F range is quite a new addition to Neovo's product range, and is currently advertised as a "Value Choice". On the resolution side of things the monitor maintains its sold approach, aswell as boasting its vibrant, highly colourful display it also offers a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024. While not the utter finest available on the market, its certainly a respectable figure.
The instructions provided are very straightforward and simple to understand. If you have any difficulty in understanding some or all of the menu functions and settings the small booklet provided explains it all quite fluently.
Last but not least is the price, when my dad purchased this monitor last week it cost 184 pounds including VAT! For a TFT monitor this is an exceptionally low price. In conclusion I must reiterate the excellent performance for price ratio this product possesses. Although not the finest monitor out there, the Neovo F 17 represents an excellent value choice in flat screen monitors. If you do not crave extreme performance, and are searching for a new monitor, I definately recommend this excellent product.
Advantages: Large flat screen, easy to view Disadvantages: Quite expensive
Whilst having problems trying to send a review which I had saved as a draft I thought I could write something else and hopefully the problem would resolve itself in the meantime. But what should I review? I had just completed one on wine which did not want to leave me and fly away to Ciao, so what next?
There it was staring me right in the face. How obvious, and yet I had ignored it, the very thing which I look at everyday, which I am using right ... ...just any monitor, this is a flat screen type. It is large and I love it to bits, as it doesn’t have too many nooks and crannies to get covered in dust, and it gives me so much more room on the computer table.
We had to purchase a new computer as the other had a small memory and was far too slow for our needs. My husband searched on the internet and decided to buy one from TIME. We decided to treat ourselves to a flat screen, as space was at a premium, ...

Advantages: great monitor at a good price Disadvantages: none
...There are drivers on the neovo website which do not have this problem and I would recommend downloading them.
For games it is usually suggested that you need a flatscreen with a 18ms response time - the 15ms on this monitor makes it a dream - there is no visible lag on updating the screen even in the fastest action game, and the colours are crisp and vibrant. Again, it takes a lot of setup to get them like this, but it is worth investing the time ... ...great and it's a dream to use. I used to get the occasional headache from glare after using an old style FST, but this is wonderful to use - no glare, no flicker, no lag, it's a dream!
Cleaning it is a pain (it attracts dust like, er, a simile I wouldn't use on a family site) and I do miss having the top of a monitor to put silly little toys on, but still, I love this thing.
For 215 pounds it's well worth it. The stall I bought it from only has ...

Advantages: Cheap, Elegant, Stylish Disadvantages: Feels cheaply made
Before i got this monitor i'd never heard of AG Neovo, so i suspect neither have you. This lead towards me having a cautious decision on whether to buy it, but im glad i did. It really is a nice stylish monitor, gives out a brilliant, radiant picture with an astonishing response time. The monitor is nearly all screen, not alot in the ways of plastics around the actual LCD, which is another good point.
Theres only 2 disadvantages to this product, the first is that it feels cheaply made (what can you expect from a 17inch monitor for just £120ish) although i have had no problems so far, i can't put my trust in it 100% to hold out. The only other bad point, is that i wish i would've paid an extra £40-£50 for the F-419, the 19inch version. All in all though, this is a really brilliant product and does all i could ask of it, with style ...

Advantages: cheap and cheerful? Disadvantages: low stand height, no built in speakers, not for gamers
I've been using the AG NeovoF-417 for about 6 months now and have found it to be a fairly average monitor to date. I use it on a daily basis at work spending a good 7-8 hours in front of it so it's worth mentioning that it doesn't seem to give me headaches or sore eyes from looking at it for great lengths of time.
As an entry level TFT LCD (which means "Thin-film transistor liquid crystal display" for those who didn't know that) monitor, The F-417 does actually have a sleek design and is available in black or silver - mine is black to match my keyboard, mouse and headset!
