This monitor was my first step into the TFT World. Being a University student I have little money for new things and this was my first big buy for a while. My original problem was that I gained a new PC desk from a friend and my 17inch CRT just wouldn't fit in it as it was one of those enclosed types. So I began my search for my first ever TFT, thinking I would have to skimp on performance, image size or quality. However, within a couple of days I found this monitor. I couldn't believe my luck. At under £200 it was perfect!
Ordering was not a problem and the monitor arrived within just a couple of days. Setup was easier than I imagined and my old mointor was thrown into the skip. I didn't realy need to use the disk that came with it but I did anyway just to let Windows have a break and the monitor was installed and instantly recognised and set itself up with my 6600GT.
Let the testing begin!
Being quite a big games fan I was worried that the average response time of 12ms (15ms/10ms on the website) would let me down quite a lot. However, I was not disappointed. All my games ran beautifully and looked FANTASTIC on the screen. This even included Quake 4 and Half life 2 which were probably let down more by my graphics card than the monitor.
The 170 degree viewing angle is also useful. My mates often come into my room to watch DVD's as the only DVD player we have is on my computer. I don't believe there has ever been a problem with lighting or fading whilst watching any films.
So on to general use. So far there are no dead pixels - always a bonuse. This was something I was also quite worried about. You always hear scare stories of having 2 or 3 dead pixels straight out the box, but the quality of this monitor is so great that there are none and I've had it for over 6 months now. Text looks extremely crisp, probably better than it did on my CRT and pictures are displayed with great colour. Edit: As mentioned in the comments I forgot to add the max resolution which is 1280X1024. This I have found is plenty enough for most tasks and everything is displayed withouth pixelation.
I did my research before buying this monitor and this had the greatest reviews. This prompted me to buy this monitor and I can't fault anyone who has written a positive review on this awesome product. Ok so it's not quite up to the standards of the £250+ monitors but still has most of the features and is the best value for money that you can get at the moment.
The only negatives I have are the response time, which could be greater, but is hardly noticeable and the satnd, which is slightly flimsy and feels like it might snap when you move the monitor. There is however a wall mount kit available for those of you that might prefer that.
All in all this is a great monitor for the price and I thoroughly recommend it to everyone! There's no going back to CRTs for me ever again. Hopefully this monirot will last a goof few year and if not at least it is covered by a 2 year warantee in the meantime...
Those of you thinking of going TFT, do it, and og for this choice!
