Manufacturer's product description
Neoware c50 is more than twice as fast as an entry-level thin client with a high-speed processor and double-speed memory. Neoware c50 makes it easier to connect to popular devices. Neoware c50 provides the greatest value at a low price point. Neoware c50 is designed to fulfill the benefits of server managed computing. Neoware c50 provides a secure client platform with locked-down user accounts, so you can continue to deliver a rich user experience while retaining enterprise control over the environment.
Advantages: Smaller than a digibox! Disadvantages: Limited processing power
...As well as being a reasonable 'thin client' the Neoware Eon Preferred 2000e - MediaGX could be described as a generic Personal Computer, admittedly with a relatively modest specification, but PC nonetheless!
I came about using a Neoware system from almost entirely the opposite direction from most people.
The unit is marketed primarily as a 'thin client' - the 32Mb ROM allows a linux-based terminal emulator to run which can connect to a number of hosts using standard TCPIP over an Ethernet - and supports windows terminal emulation, 5250, TV100 etc.
The applications run on a host server, and all the client does is do the media presentation stuff.
On the other hand, looking at the system architecture, it's actually a modestly specified PC in it's own right.
At the core of the system is a Geode processor - a cut down low power version...

Advantages: Mini with many features Disadvantages: poor floating point
...This is an interesting little board which is tougher than you might expect along with being highly versatile.
I am currently using mine to run the main processing for a medium sized autonomous robot. The robot is designed to move around pre-defined GPS specified way points and find a target location while avoiding things. The motherboard in question is being run while the robot is moving and is doing a very good job at it too. It is mounted vertically on a custom designed and built case with a 40Gb Hard drive, 512Mb DDR400 RAM and a wireless card. As I've said it can cope with the needed processing and doesn't seem to be any worse for wear given its usage. It has been taken outside in the snow and has worked well with operating temperatures of about -5degrees C. Its specification claims it should only work at +5degrees C to +50degrees...

Advantages: Value for money Disadvantages: Qaility of colour picures is poor
...I recently purchaesd a Hewlett Packard 610C for £50 at Jungle and it does the job. I am a student and since my college started charging for printing, I calculated it is cheaper to buy one.
One of the best points about this low cost printer is that you don't have to keep feeding paper into it as it holds 100 sheets.
Printing text is very crisp and clear at 600x600 dpi at best and 300x300 at eco.
Its very fast at printing to at a rate of 5 pages per min depending on the quality.
If you need to print detailed pictures such as photographs, this printer is not for you. The resolution is only 300x300 in colour which makes the most handsome of people look like spotty teenagers (no offence I was one once). Printing in colour can also take a while longer.
It comes with colour and black ink cartiages, easy to install software and a low cost very...

Well it’s nice to be back and get writing again.
I thought I would write about the Eden project as it is a place I have wanted to visit for a long time and at last on this break I got the opportunity.
A LITTLE HISTORY.
The Eden project is a... more
Most people are aquainted with Ben Elton on Saturday Night Live, and his rambling, fast paced stand-up. His books are similar in that in places he goes off in a tangent, but it adds to the story rather than detracts.
