...After hearing and reading about all the rumours of Cyrix processors I was quite upset to find I had one, in my new pc.
I slowly began to accept that I had a Cyrix II233 and continued to use my games and programs as usual. While I was using this processor I found it quite good, Bus speeds are good and the 233 mark usually stays, but sometimes benchmarks show it as 200 or 245mhz so as you can see, they didn’t quite get the processing speed accurate, or if they did its not consistent.
All the rumours I had heard after this I found to be pure rumour, as it supported everything I threw at it (not literally).
Windows 95,98,2000 and NT all work perfectly and at a fair speed on this processor, as does the very complex, Linux.
Even sometimes I found myself being able to play games designed for 333’s and also for systems...

Advantages: Compact all-in-one design, robust and portable, high build quality, attractive styling Disadvantages: Relative high cost, slow USB connectivity.
...Well my little Bondi Blue babe is almost 18 months old, and here's the review.
233MHz, how does that compare with the current crop of consumer PC's / iMacs? OK 233MHz doesn't sound like much processing power when you see ads for 700MHz PC's, but you've got to remember that the PC MHz rating is not directly related to that of IBM / / Motorola / Apple's PPC chip architecture. It actually equates to around 450 MHz, so it's not to bad. My machine has a 160 MB of RAM and is perfectly happy tossing 200 MB photoshop files around in it's memory.
What about the Hardrive, isn't 4GB too small? Yes, but after 18 month's of hard work, evev a 10GB drive would have had to have a couple of spring cleans on it. I chose the easy option and bought an external USB CD-RW (x2) and an external 20GB USB Harddrive. So storage worries are now a thing...

Advantages: Fast & economical Disadvantages: May require new motherboard
...is of a different type, a new board will be required. This is not too much of a problem though as there are some very good ones available at decent prices. I went for the Soltek 75KV which I will go into more in another op.
In Use...
After fitting the chip and a Cooler Master fan, I booted and installed the latest Via Drivers. I was amazed by the speed of this processor that is at a price to suit anyone. Although the difference between my new system and my old one (Pentium II 350 MHz) should have given me extra speed anyway, I couldn't believe that just a 700 MHz chip could do so much and in such a small period of time. This is where the 200MHz FSB comes into it's own.
The Verdict...
Although the 700 MHz version isn't available any more from usual retail sources, you may be able to get it from auction sites, etc. However, it would be advantagous...

For a good while I've been searching for the ideal mobile phone replacement. My current, (yet now replaced), Samsung D600 had more than served its purpose over the last 16 months or so and with myself being someone who enjoys getting a hold of the latest more
