Advantages: Good quality and good value for money- easily overclocked Disadvantages: starts off slow and you have to overclock :D
...This is all a bit technical but I felt this was what was missing from all the ciao ops on the duron
The Duron 800 was announced and released in parallel with the Athlon 1.2 GHz processor. A new high-end processor and a new low-end processor to further compete and shove the competition out the way. While an 800MHz CPU may seem like old news, at such a low cost to the mass market, 800MHz sounds like gold. For budget-PC buyers, the higher the clockspeed, the better the machine: whether that is true or not.
For the hardcore buyer, the higher clockspeed usually just means you have a better chance of overclocking successfully. However, we are not the majority of the market share, so we think may not matter as much as we’d like it to.
Either way, the Duron 800 helps keep AMD on top of Intel in every category of processor for the highest...

...The Intel Pentium III 800MHz simply takes hardware to the next stage.
After upgrading from my PII 350 MHz I found not only did Windows 98 and other products 'start' and run faster, but the 3D graphics on games such as Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament were improved significantly (without the upgrade of the 3D Card). The internet also operated faster, download time seemed to increase marginally. The price shouldn't discourage either. All in all, until the P4 1500MHz (!!!) is released this is simply the best processor to be found on the market - and of course it comes with the Intel Logo......

Advantages: good overclocker Disadvantages: not as good as duron
...performance increase, not only in the fact that it is 300MHz faster, but that fact that it is running at a higher bus speed to do this which benefits performance immensely (eg a P3 800EB at 6 * 133MHz bus speed will out-perform a P3 at 8 * 100 MHz bus speed).
Anyway, as I said, you will need good cooling to do this, as it often requires raising the default voltage supplied to the CPU, which increases the amount of heat produced. Go to one of the overclocking websites (www.overclockingstore.co.uk is the one I normally use) and pay 15 quid or so for a decent cooler.
Then simply plug everything in and increase the bus speed and voltage (modern boards can do this using the BIOS setup screen) gradually until all is stable. You may find that your CPU will not get to 9*100MHz, but it might work fine at 9*90MHz. This is normal - not all CPU's are good...
