First of all, I want to make it clear that this review is not about Nescafe coffee, although you have to want to drink it in order to take part in the reward scheme. Personally I think it is the best instant coffee around so it is an added bonus that they offer rewards as well!

If you have read some of my other reviews you will realise that I am one of those people who is always on the lookout for a bargain and I try to make a little extra wherever I can. I am always one of the first to sign up to a new loyalty card or a new cashback site and certainly over the years the rewards do add up! Pick-me-ups is the reward scheme for buying and drinking Nescafe coffee.
First of all, I want to make it clear that this review is not about Nescafe coffee, although you have to want to drink it in order to take part in the reward scheme. Personally I think it is the best instant coffee around so it is an added bonus that they offer rewards as well!
So what is the pick-me-ups scheme and how does it work? Well it's quite easy really as every jar of coffee has a bean token on it and depending on the size of the jar it can be worth one, two or three beans. These beans are a sort of oval shape and are perforated so they are really easy to detach from the rest of the label. You can attach your beans to a collector card which is downloadable from the Nescafe website (more about this later!) and it comes with one bean already attached as a bonus.
Once you have collected a number of tokens you can redeem these for a variety of rewards. These range from smallish rewards from only 6 beans to more substantial rewards worth up to 35 beans! The lowest rewards are either mugs, a free book or a free DVD rental from Blockbuster for only 6 beans. The highest reward is for an annual cinema card which allows two people to go to their local cinema and only pay for one, and they can use this as many times in a year as they wish! The rewards in between include bathrobes, free theatre tickets, free family portraits, weekend bags and much more. For most of these you have to pay a small amount towards the P and P but nothing else which I think is a really good deal!
You can get more details about all of this by visiting the Nescafe website at
www.nescafe.co.uk
and clicking on the pick-me-ups section. You have to register and then you have access to all the reward options as well as the collector card. They also have some interesting features here under the heading 'this might interest you'. These are related to the different types of rewards and for example there is a 'you and your home' section where there are recipes you can print off. I haven't bothered with these but I guess they could be quite useful.
Once you have signed up, you will receive the Pick-me-ups magazine twice a year. This also has interesting features in it and reminders of the different rewards you can claim.
Last year I collected enough beans to receive a bathrobe and a towel and slippers set. They were all good quality and arrived reasonably quickly, although you are told to allow 28 days for delivery.
So my overall impression is that this is a pretty good reward scheme. There is a range of rewards to suit most tastes, and if you are going to be buying the coffee anyway it is a nice little extra! So for all you Nescafe drinkers out there, look out for the little beans on the labels!!
Advantages: Something for nothing Disadvantages: Small payment for postage
...full advantage of it.
Nescafe pick-me-ups offers me free goodies for just collecting beans from the back of jars of coffee that I buy regularly.
As I have just recieved my latest copy of the pick me ups magazine with new offers I thought I had better update this review

...ups” is a scheme by Nescafe that has been running for well over a year now, where you can earn “rewards” or “gifts” by collecting bean tokens from the labels on jars of Nescafe coffee. It’s a great idea if you drink a lot of coffee and like Nescafe, if not you could always buy it for someone else and keep the tokens…or be cheeky and ask others who don’t want their tokens if you can have them!
Information about the scheme can be found on the Nescafe ... ...you post the sheet to Nescafe with a cheque for the p+p, and the gift is sent to you within 28 days.

Quick review of Nescafe Pick-Me-Ups
My 100g jar of Nescafe original displays a 'Best before end 02 2009' date on it. I notice that my free Bean token is '..to be redeemed by 31.12.07'.
Perhaps time is running backwards, following the switch on of the LHC, - has anyone else noticed this? ...

a slightly smoother taste than the original and better tasting than this one. With the price tag of 99p it is good compared to its usual price of £1.58 and other varieties at £1.98+. Rival brands of similar quality are also priced at £1.98+ so it is a good deal. Please note that these prices are from my local supermarket so they may well vary around the country.
~ The Nescafe Experience ~
The experience I gained from this coffee is that if you want a light coffee then this is for you. You still experience the Nescafe quality and taste but a bit weaker than other varieties. Having experienced some other coffees, some brands leave an after taste or sharp taste but Nescafe always seem to satisfy me.
So why not finish work, go to shop, pickup a Nescafe, go home, have a cuppa and put you're feet up. ...
Advantages: Make according to your taste, Contains antioxidants. Disadvantages: Not good if you need caffeine.
on the front is a mixture of gold, blue and silver, With the Nescafe title/logo running vertically down the left side, in white font. There is a picture of a bean in the background with a wispy bit of steam coming from the top. In gold writing there are the words Gold Blend and rich aroma. In clear brown writing at the bottom of the label is the word DECAFF. This has to be written clearly, as some people can only drink decaff, and some people can't, so to have this clearly labeled is a must.
There is all sorts of information written on the back, including contacts, best before date, and promotion details about Pickmeups, which I'll explain later.
All Nescafe jars are glass, and have a distinctive hour glass shape, which makes it easy to hold onto when you are taking out the coffee with a spoon or pouring straight into a cup.
