At around about 3pm, every day without fail, I get a major sugar craving. It has been patiently explained to me by people who care about these things that if I ate a proper lunch (as opposed to a slice of toast with marmite and a handful of peanuts) this would not happen. However, I'm really not the kind of girl who spends quality smoking time making sandwiches in the morning, so generally, I resort to a quick-fix solution for my mid-afternoon slump.
However, just after I arrived in work on Friday I found that I'd managed to forget my usual stash of chocolate. So off I went and had a wee poke around the other classrooms to no avail - the best the Primary 2 teacher could offer was some dried fruit. Obviously, I turned my nose up at that.
By 9.30, I have to confess that I was getting a little panicky - we were in the middle of textile printing activities, I had paint in my hair, a special needs child had drunk half a pint of blue poster paint, a glue spreader had vanished (and one of the kids had a suspiciously swollen and red nose) and I needed the security of knowing that I had some kind of chocolate within my reach.
What to do? Well, here comes a bit of an admission. I packed the kids off at 10.30 to the playground and…….
rifled through all of their lunchboxes for the nicest chocolate I could find. Teachers, I'm thinking, should not really be admitting to this kind of stuff publicly, but we all do it (and more than you'd think. If you have a child aged 11 or under and all the nice bits out of their lunchbox keep vanishing, chances are it's not bullies doing the dirty deed, it's the 'professional educators')
Anyway, now that shameful secret's out, let's press on shall we? On that particular day pickings were mighty slim, but I did manage to find an inviting packet of Aero bubbles, which I duly swiped. (To make matters worse, the kid in question was devastated when he realised they'd gone missing, and I actually lectured him about 'taking responsibility for his possessions' before fobbing him off with an orange. I'm going to hell. In my defence, I'm a really nice teacher, and I read great stories.)
Aero bubbles are the latest offering from Nestle and come in a packet that is white with green bubbles floating whimsically across it. The packaging for the 43g bag is roughly the same size and shape as a Skittles bag. The Nestle logo and 'Aero bubbles' are featured prominently on the front. The sweets themselves are little balls of bubbly peppermint Aero chocolate (roughly about the size of a thumbnail) surrounded by a chocolate shell that is half brown and half luminescent green.
On opening the packet you get a really strong minty whiff that's very appealing, with a very faint chocolate aroma. The first thing you notice is how light the sweets are; these really aren't a substantial snack. Once you pop one in your mouth the mint flavour kicks in immediately and gently pervades your mouth, but despite the smell it's not an overpowering taste. The outer layer is smooth and silky, with a nice balance of mint and chocolate. I found that the mint was quite a synthetic flavour that lingered around the mouth for an hour or so after consumption. I quite liked the chemical mint taste, but then again, I was raised in the '80s and so have fully embraced artificial flavours and E numbers. Purists amongst you may hate it. The texture underneath the outer shell is the same as an ordinary Aero bar, bubbly and very slightly rough on the tongue and again, I felt the combination of mint and chocolate was well-balanced. Because of the bubbly texture, these sweets are less dense and rich than a normal bar of chocolate, making them perfect for a quick treat, rather than a real indulgence.
I stole my packet (and I'm not even sorry!), but the website informs me that the normal retail price for a 42g bag is 43p and £1.49 for a 147g bag. I'll not bore you with all the ingredients, suffice to say that predictably, these are high in sugar and fat and a whole host of other chemicals. They're available in all good children's lunchboxes everywhere, and also major supermarkets, confectioners etc.
They get 3.5 stars from me. They're jolly nice, but they're quite dear for a little packet, and you don't get an awful lot of sweets (just 14 in my bag).
NB. Please ignore the ratings below. I'm baffled as to how these yummy little beasties slipped into a CD category.
Advantages: Aero Bubbles Are Balls With Attitude Disadvantages: Can Effect the Waistline
...that light bubbly chocolate that Nestle named as Aero. Having different flavours I have tried them all. My ultimate favourite from the start was I have to admit, the Mint Aero. The orange flavoured Aero was just too sickly, the chocolate one was too boring to tantalise my taste buds. I was only a young kid when I tried the Mint one.
I have remained so loyal to Nestle over the years and can honestly say that when I am standing in a shop choosing ... ...my review of the New Nestle Aero Bubbles. I first discovered these strangely enough in WH Smith at the local train station (Cambridge, if you must know). I was miserable at the thought of a 3 hour train journey ahead of me so I thought why not; I may as well try them!
Picking up a large re-sealable 147g bag of them I made my way to the counter. I paid about £1.35 for them and made my way out onto the platform to catch my train……..
I sat comfortably ...

...them _Airways_.
In 1988 Nestle acquired Rowntree's.
Aero Bubbles were introduced in 2005.
The mint pouch variety contain about 20 calories more than the milk ones.
The Bubbles are available in small and pouch size bags. (No need to guess what size I chose!)
How do they get the bubbles? The best information I can find suggests that air is run through the chocolate just before it sets.
There are 45 sweets in a pouch.

Advantages: Really chocolatey taste, frothy Disadvantages: Not particularly low-cal, and high in sugar
Aero Hot Chocolate is an instant bubbly hot chocolate drink made by Nestle, the same people who make Aero chocolate bars. There have been many new 'chocolate bar' hot chocolate drinks appearing on supermarket shelves recently, and I have to admit I've probably tried them all, as I love a nice mug of chocolate. This Aero hot chocolate comes in either a box of 8 1 serving sachets, or a 12 serving jar, for £1.49 - £1.99 depending on where you buy it. I buy the jar as it's much better value for money.
If you buy the sachets they come in a small cardboard box with pictures of bubbles all over it. Each sachet has the instructions on as well as the box, so you don't need to keep the box if you want to make space in your cupboards. To use them you just rip the top off the sachet and pour the contents into a mug. The jar is made of plastic ...
Advantages: Makes you slep like a baby Disadvantages: just tastes like any ordinary hot chocolate drink
NestleAero Instant Bubbly Hot Chocolate Drink
this drink is personally just like any other ordinary hot chocoate drink!.. In the drink it does have that same instinctive flavour that the chocolate ball or bars have. But any it is still a nice drink with lots of coca. If you have it before bed time with a little bit of milk it will make you sleep like a baby!. and make you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle lifes fun factors. Personally i have it with milk because it makes the chocholate alot more creamy and lucious. The Packets and jars are abit bit small and for the price it isnt really a bargain.
Still a nice drink not to sure if i would recomend! . ...
Advantages: Can be made as strong or as weak as you'd like it to be Disadvantages: Doesn't last long if you have friends over as they all want some
Aero instant bubbly hot chocolate drink is made by Nestle. I have to confess that i'm not normally a fan of hot chocolate so would never have tried this if not for a friend who made me one after a night on the town. I tried it and am now the biggest fan of Aero hot chocolate...it is delicious! I went out the next day and bought a Jar that will make upto 12 servings. This is great as you can make it as strong or as weak as you'd like. They suggest on the jar that you place 4 heaped teaspoons into a mug, I find this a little strong so i only use 3 teaspoons which means i'll get a few extra servings from the jar.
The flavour is quite subtle and not too strong. I love milk chocolate and this is definately the taste i get from this hot chocolate, there is none of the bitterness of dark chocolate. The texture is quite creamy, its advertised ...
