I'm not normally a fan of instant hot chocolate drinks but there is something different about the Aero hot chocolate. Whilst doing the weekly shop recently my other half spotted this hot drink on special offer - £1.50 (good old Asda!). There were two versions available, a normal chocolate one and a minty version. Both claimed that 'the way the bubbles melt on your tongue creates a deliciously smooth hot chocolate sensation - go on indulge yourself.' It sounded too good to be true so we decided to try the normal chocolate one and put a tub in the trolly.

Once we got home I put it away and to be honest forgot about it! A few days later my boyfriend was making me a tea and remembered the hot chocolate and decided to try one. Once he came to sit down I became much more interested in his drink than my tea and I love tea! What attracted me firstly was the amount of bubbles floating on the top, then I noticed the lovely chocolatey smell wafting towards me. I persuaded him to let me try it and I was very surprised, it was actually very nice and the bubbles certainly gave it something different. When I went back to the kitchen I had a look at the tub and was even more surprised to read it was only 99 calories a cup! Not bad for a hot chocolate drink.

That week at shopping they were still on special offer so I decided to get a minty one. I have now perfected the way to make a decent cup of hot chocolate, it is as follows:

1 - Put fresh water in kettle and boil.
2 - Put 4 heaped teaspoons of powder into a mug, if using a large mug put an extra one in for luck.
3 - Once water has boiled let it stand for one to two minutes.
4 - Pour on enough water to just cover the powder and mix together to form a choccy paste. This ensures that there are no nasty lumps in your hot drink, (this could also be used with other hot choocy drinks.)
5 - Pour on more water but not all the way to the top of the mug and stir some more.
6 - Add a dash of milk for an even creamier taste! (optional)

This I have found will make a very nice cup of hot chocolate for both the chocolate and the minty one. It is quite creamy and the taste is pretty good. As I said before the bubbles do give it an extra something and overall it is enjoyable to drink. There are probably better quality ones you could get for example Green & Blacks but for a low calorie one this is by far the best. I have in the past tried Options and Cadburys high-lights and they have been watery and not very pleasent.

I can't comment on whether it would be suitable for vegetarians or any other special diet as it doesn't say on the tub. I have looked on the Aero web-site and it was less than helpful. All the seemed to have was that advert from the telly with the man in his towel............mmmm...

There is one thing that does put me off this Aero hot chocolate and that was the list of ingregiants:

Fat reduced Drinking Chocolate (43%) - (Sugar, Fat reduced Cocoa Powder)
Skimmed Milk Powder
Sugar
Hydrogenated Vegetable oil (yuck)
Dried Glucose Syrup
Lactose - Whey Permeate
Lactose
Thickeners (E466, E415)
Slat
Milk Proteins
Flavourings
Stabilisers (E340, E452i, E331)

This does seem like a rather long list of nasty ingrediants and I'm not entirely sure I would buy it again because of this. I do try to eat foods that have natural ingrediants and I'm really not keen on E numbers so this does put me off. However for a once in a while treat I think its lovely bubbly!!
