Advantages Advantages Intense mint chocolate flavour

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as high quality as the originals

I have to admit to having a problem with the structure and direction of this review, because whilst the Straws themselves are great and very "moreish", I have always found the idea of these Straws to be a slight "dumbing down" of the classic After Eight mints, and to being slightly concerned that this is what the future holds from Nestle. The classic square After Eight mints have been in production since the 1960's, effectively defining the idea of "after dinner mints" to the general population. Whilst the presentation of the standard mints has changed very little in that time (the crispy ... more

Advantages Advantages There After Eights and dark chocolate is good for your heart

Disadvantages Disadvantages To expensive for what you get and oh so fattening

Well here I am with a new review. Those of you who know me will not be surprised that its is all about chocolate..lol. What has caused me to get back to the PC and start tapping away? Well one of the great institutions of the chocolate world has had a slight makeover. After Eights are now not only made in the traditional (in my best Monty Python French accent) "Waffer thin" form, but also in straws. Well I was in the Spar shop at the end of my road, depressed at loosing out on yet another house to rent, so I felt I had no choice but to throw some chocolate down my throat. Looking around the ... more

Advantages Advantages Less pacakging than traditional After Eight

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None it's chocolate

After Eight Straws After eight Straws come in two flavours that I have found, Grand Marnier and the traditional mint. The first time I bought them was in a 4 pack for over Christmas, this was the first time I had actually seen them in the shops. In the pack of 4 were two cylinders of the Grand Marnier and tow cylinders of the Mint. I haven't seen the Grand Marnier ones since Christmas though. I have bought them since but always separately. If I bought a pack of 4 I would eat them all in about 2 days, which is not good for the waste line. So I have now restricted myself to only buying one ... more

Advantages Advantages Tastier than the Average After Eight

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough value for money

Well having read lots and lots of reviews on chocolate recently and me falling off the wagon by eating a load I decided not to waste my efforts and share my experience with all Ciao readers. The After Eight straws are a new addition to the After Eight which was introduced in the UK in 1962 by Nestle Rowntree and are one of 3 major confectionary manufacturers in the UK. This new product is easy to spot in the 90g silver cardboard tube containing the After Eight Straws and has the distinct After Eight label around the middle of the tube. They cost £1.99 and can be purchased at most supermarkets ... more

    Advantages Advantages Nice taste.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive. Not as nice as the wafers.

I've had a tube of After Eight Straws in the cupboard for ages, and tonight after dinner (not after 8 though ;) ) we decided to open them. They come in a elegant green tube that I thinks looks much more sophisticated than the box shape that the After Eight classic wafers come in. The tube cost me £3.50 in my local newsagents a few months ago - which seemed like a decent price for this type of confectionary, until I worked out that that equated to 17.5p per straw that works out expensive actually. The straws are accessed by twisting the top off so that the straws are poking out of the top of ... more
