==Caramac== This has to be one of my favourite chocolate bars and I guess I could eat anyone under the table with these although I guess they are not too good for you in terms of the fat content... more

Advantages Advantages Delicious, delicious and well, delicious!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Possibly a bit too sickly sweet for some

Caramac bars have been a firm favourite of mine for a long time. It was one of my favourite confectionary choices as a young 'un and now, at the grand old age of twenty five it still tops my list! Infact, for all you trivia, um, mongers, out there, the bar was launched in 1959. That was a long time ago! They cost around 30-33 pence each, so a pretty standard price for a non standard bar. I did recently have trouble finding them locally (don't know why) but my boyfriend surprised me by ordering a box of fifteen of the beauties for me online and having them delivered to me at home. That was a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Unique flavour

Disadvantages Disadvantages Swwet, too much can be sickly and overpowering

Sitting around at the ritual family takeaway meal last Friday evening, conversation turned to the demise of Woolworth's and what would be missed. Somehow, the surrounding clutter from the discarded boxes and dishes just added to the poignancy of the topic. The elders in the room waxed lyrical about pic'n' mix, top 10 singles and the cheapest chocolates and toys in the town at Christmas. The youngsters seemed unmoved, merely resigned that the shop had never had it; much less 'lost the plot'………….until my brother recalled the biscuit counter from our childhood where not only could you buy broken ... more

    Advantages Advantages Creamy caramel chocolate

Disadvantages Disadvantages Never stays around for any length of time

Oh have I had some fun times with Caramacs…………… I remember one Christmas my mum got my dad around 6 wrapped them up and tucked them under the Christmas tree, and the next morning we found the wrappers all over the place, someone had attacked my dads Christmas present, ruined and eaten all the caramacs, unfortunately it was our poodle that had crept out of her basket at night and devoured the whole lot. Well was that my dads Christmas ruined! You may find it strange that my mum wraps up caramacs for Christmas, but my dad has liked them for many years, and whenever ... more

Advantages Advantages Delicious, cheap and not likely to plaster itself all over you in an undignified manner

Disadvantages Disadvantages The wrapper's gone all modern - but the product remains Caramac through and through

Way back in the 1980's my School Headmaster made one of the most grave errors of his teaching career - he put yours truly in charge of the 6th form Tuck Shop! I can understand his reasoning ... competent, sensible, organised...... (??!) but he had not banked on one thing: I'm a chocoholic. Now all you sympathisers, just imagine the luxury of spending your lunch hours surrounded by all those mouth watering temptations... heaven! (Although not throughout the double German lesson that usually ensued!) Anyhow, his reckless decision was rewarded in the end as I kept the shop afloat and was a great ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice change from normal boring chocolate

Disadvantages Disadvantages Might make you nostalgic for other "childhood sweeties" like the hugely over-rated mouth-shredders, Spangles. Don't get me started.

Cast your mind back, my friends, to the days when this was all fields, and beer were tuppence 'appeny (to be read in a bad comedy Yorkshire accent). In other words, go back to your childhood. Now we've all got TV shows that we remember from our more youthful days (Mr.Benn or Chorlton And The Wheelies, anyone?), but there's also other stuff. Like penny dainties, white tubes of Smarties, Pacer mints - and Caramacs. And guess what? You still get Caramacs today! Yippee! Sorry, got a bit over-excited there. Anyway, Caramacs (nightmare to type, by the way). My earliest memory of a Caramac wasn't of ... more
