As the mother of two young children, there are many staple items in my cupboards, fridges and freezer. One of these things has to be of the "ice-creamy" variety. In all fairness my children are not proud, they will pretty much eat any ice cream or lolly, as long as it is bright, colourful and sweet anything goes!
As you may have noticed the weather has perked up rather dramatically in the last week or so, thus encouraging the kids to ask more frequently for an icy dessert, so as a treat I let them pick their own ice lollies from our local branch of Asda.
One of the selected items is the product I will now review…… FAB ICE LOLLYS.
~~~~~~ THE PACKAGING ~~~~~~ The lollies come in a long rectangular white box with the product name in large blue bubble writing emblazoned across the front, there is a large picture of a FAB lolly at the side of this with the stick of it poking out of a strawberry. The colours on the box are bright and colourful, and all alluring to any child seeing it! It also states on the box that there are 8 lollies enclosed and for the parents a large green circle at the side of the box saying "natural colours and natural flavours", so after eating these my kids will hopefully not be bouncing off the walls! (no more than usual anyway!)
~~~~~~ THE LOLLY ~~~~~~ Upon removing a lolly from the box, you will see that the designs on the outer box are mirrored on the plastic packet that holds each individual lolly, this is easy to open, ( I think the record is 3 seconds set by my daughter, unlike my 3 year old son who just chews his way through it!)
The lolly itself has very distinctive colours, the bottom of it is bright red and strawberry in flavour, then halfway up, the colour is white, I am unsure of this flavour, as even though the strawberry is delicious (I have had to try one for quality control you understand!), it does tend to swamp any other flavour that may be hidden there. At the top, sitting like a jewelled crown sit's a chocolate layer that is covered in brightly coloured sugar strands, I was going to put hundreds and thousands, but my smart arse daughter informs me that they are round and these are so obviously not!! As you bite through the chocolate top, you will see the white and red ice in the centre, I have tried to explain to my daughter how they do this, telling her they must be made using a dipping method, but I get the impression she thinks I'm making it up!
~~~~~~ THE TASTE ~~~~~~ The taste as I mentioned earlier is very juicy and is a very strong strawberry flavour, what I do like about these is the fact that even straight from the freezer they have a softness of bite about them. Some ice lollies have to be held for a few seconds, so as to ensure no teeth are broken in the eating! These are easy to eat from the onset, which is lucky, my kids very rarely like waiting for anything! These are refreshing, tasty and with chocolate at the top very Moorish.
~~~~~~ NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION ~~~~~~
These are of course a treat so do not expect them to be particularly healthy in anyway, each lolly (as stated on the box) contains - 79 calories 12.5g of sugar 2.7g of fat, of which saturates 0.9g
This equates (for anyone following the Weight Watchers regime) as 1.5 points, which is actually a nice surprise, knowing I can have one of these as a small treat. My kids object to this though and have taken to hiding them under the peas!
The box states, however that this product may contain nuts and also may stain. It is suitable for vegetarians though.
~~~~~~ PRICE AND AVAILABILITY ~~~~~~ These along with twenty other varieties of ice lolly are on a semi permanent offer at Asda, for a single box they would set you back £1.77, (other brands vary in price), but on offer they are 2 boxes for 3 pounds, meaning there should be less fighting between my children, as to who can choose what I am going to buy! These are nationally known brand, so are pretty much available in any shop that has a freezer!
~~~~~~ CONCLUSION ~~~~~~
These come highly recommended by myself (for the five minutes peace I get when they are being consumed) and also by my children, just because they like them and there……..FAB!

Nestle Fab Ice-Lollies…
These Nestle Fab Ice-Lollies are probably my favourite ice-lolly to have in the summer or even after a good work out. They are great to have in the freezer for sugar emergencies, which in my house happens quite a lot.
The Fab lolly itself is a great design and incorporates four different sections which all have a distinctive taste and texture. This is unlike any other ice-lolly I can think of so I have nothing really to ... ...teasing taste of the creamy Nestle chocolate that is on offer.
The next layer of the Fab ice-lolly is a very milky and creamy ice cream section. This ice cream is white in colour and this is the first layer that actually covers the entire length of the lolly. This is a good thing as it is actually my favourite part of the Fab ice lolly. When you eat it together with all the other layers of the lolly you can still get the creamy taste that is given ...

Advantages: Cheap, Good Size, Disadvantages: Orange isnt good
...with a thin layer of nestle chocolate and sugar strands (long hundreds and thousands). They are an ideal summer treat. So with a total of 16 in the freezer (8 in a box) I thought it best to start making some space and eagerly unwrapped one of the orange variety.
== The Orange FAB ==
I was very disappointed with the orange variety of FAB – mainly because I was desperately hoping for a strong fruity flavour as with the Strawberry version; however ... ...of orange squash. Not to be deterred I began at the top scrapping the chocolate off the end of the lolly before getting to the orange flavoured ice. Unfortunately this particular ice lolly was slightly squashed causing the ice cream to overlap the chocolate and the flavours to merge together – I apologise if my description is confusing.
Normally you can quite easily eat each individual layer of this ice lolly with no problems, the orange and white ...

Nestle Fab Ice Lollies
Summer si nearly here and it really is beginning to get hot. In this heat there is nothing I like more than to be able to suck on something ice cold to chill me outside and inside. Nestle Fab ice lollies are the perfect thing for this particular craving and I must go through a good couple of dozen every summer.
I tend to buy the multi packets from Tesco or Morrison's when I do my shopping but if I am out for an afternoon ... ...ice-lolly from the shop. The cost is pretty reasonable and I pay around 50 pence for a single ice lolly or £1.99 for a large multi packet.
They have been around for as long as I can remember and I always enjoyed eating them as a child. The thing I like most about these ice-lollies is that they have so much to offer. They are neither one particular thing nor another. The ice lolly is made up of several different layers giving you the utmost enjoyment ...

===* NEW ORANGE VARIETY*===
I love a bargain - don't we all !! Expecting my three young grandchildren for a visit and hoping for good weather I was pleased to find this new variety of the old favourite, Fab lolly ices in Sainsbury's at the price of £1 for 8 ( a lot cheaper than getting them off the ice cream man!!!) These were less than half price as the r.r.p. is £1.99, so a couple of packets went in my trolley to go in the ... ...varieties of the old favourite available - the original strawberry, lime and orange; as yet I have not tried the lime and this review is about the orange variety. Just in case some of you have been living in a time warp, the Fab lolly consists of three parts, starting with a fruit based ice lolly which goes right through the lolly, that is is topped with a firm white icecream - leaving a portion of the ice lolly on view and then there is a thick ...

Advantages: Fairly well priced. Disadvantages: They didn't pass the taste test.
...at most outlets.
Manufactured by Nestle (used to be a Lyons product)
Only 86 calories per lolly
May contain traces of nut
Suitable for vegitarians
The green colouring used may stain some clothes.
They have a very long best before date - nearly 2 years.
They also do an orange flavour Fab
The list of ingredients is VERY long, a bit of a worry in itself, so I won't list them here.
I would love to know if anyone else has tried these. ...
