I'm sure everyone that has a sweet tooth for white chocolate is well aware of nestle milky bar products from; milky bar white buttons to milky bar bars, and no-one can deny that the adverts for milky bar grab your attention with the age old milky bar kid advertising this delicious white chocolate sweet snack that's not just for children. WHAT ARE MILKY BAR WHITE MOMENTS
Who here has tried Galaxy minstrels? Almost everyone I'd presume, delicious milk chocolate wrapped in a crispy sugar shell (I'm sure that's what most chocolate lovers would say anyway). Well Nestle have essentially come up with the white chocolate equivalent to this chocolate treat for those of us who perhaps don't have as much of a sweet tooth for milk chocolate as we do for white chocolate and I have to admit I am such a creature. Milk chocolate really doesn't grab my attention in the same way that white chocolate does and when I first saw this addition to the milky bar family I just had to buy them to try them. The description of these little treats on the front of the packaging states that milky bar white moments are: "Delicious, Creamy white chocolate wrapped in a crispy sugar shell"
The actual chocolate treat itself is exactly as described, a creamy white chocolate colour slightly larger in size than the common Galaxy Minstrel
THE PACKAGING
Milky bar have decided to present these little treats to us consumers in a 175g grab pouch - not the size of bag you would generally buy for your children so my basic assumption is that nestle have targeted the adult market with this addition to their portfolio. The bag itself has the traditional nestle milky bar logo located very noticeably on the front of the package with some pictures of what the moments actually look like. With a tear off top and the option to re-seal leaving the consumer with the opportunity to only devour a couple of moments at a time and be able to go back for more later it seems that nestle milky bar have really thought about the adult consumer when producing this packaging, the only thing left for me to do is eat the treat, because as they say - the proof is in the pudding.
THE TASTE TEST
So thinking back to the statement made on the packaging I opened up the pouch and was hit with that familiar milky aroma normally associated with white chocolate and popped the first moment into my mouth. These are a good size for those of you who like to suck on your sweet treats and the sugary coating is nothing more than a very thin shell which dissolves quickly in your mouth - like the shell you find on smarties, but it is lovely and crispy and I don't feel as though these are overloaded with Sugar although the sugary coating does add an extra sweetness to the white chocolate contained underneath. Once the crispy sugar coating has either dissolved or been crunched away you're left with the delicious creamyness of the much loved milky bar white chocolate, delicately smooth on the pallet and best of all made from all natural ingredients. I don't think I'd eat any more than 4 or 5 of these at a time because after the first few they do begin to get a bit sickly so I try to avoid that sickly feeling and stick to being satisfied with a small portion which is more than enough given the calorific nature of the treat. 100g worth of moments bags you with 500calories so best to keep the indulgence to a minimum.
WHERE TO BUY
I found my bag of moments in my local Asda where they were on offer for £1.00 but I believe that these have now gone up in price to more than £1.50 but I apologise I don't know what they are currently retailing at - pop down to your local Asda and check them out as it's the only place I've found them so far :)
OVERALL OPINION
A good effort by nestle to try and bring something new to the table with white chocolate and appeal to the more mature market. Some may argue that these are a little too sweet and sickly, but in my opinion they're all good in moderation.
