It seems a little strange to be writing about ice cream as the days are definitely getting cooler. However, we have just discovered these in Sainsburys and as my daughters love ice cream or lollies as a pudding sometimes, we wondered what they would be like. They had two things that instantly appealed to the girls. Firstly the name! Well anything that dares to call itself Nobbly Bobbly has to be good and both girls thought these sounded like a lot of fun. Secondly there was the picture on the packaging and the appeal of loads of hundreds and thousands on a lolly was enormous!
Now on to the factual bits....
Nobbly Bobbly ice creams are made by Nestle and they come in packs of four. In Sainsburys these cost £1.99 per pack but we were enticed by the current BOGOF offer! As a parent I was very pleased to see that they contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. There are also nutritional values on the packet and it's interesting to note that these relate to a child's guideline daily amounts. A 70 ml lolly contains 219 calories which is 12% of a child's GDA but I was a bit horrified when I realised that sugar at 21.6g was a whopping 25% GDA. This is probably why they are probably best for an occasional treat rather than to eat on a regular basis! They are also suitable for vegetarians.
Now if you are a three or a five year old these ice cream lollies do look incredibly attractive although I have to admit that they don't do much for a much older mummy! When you open each one from their individual wrappers all you see is the immense covering of sprinkles. Well my three year old's eyes nearly popped out of her head - she must have thought she was in sprinkle heaven! I think they also really liked the difference that the nobbly bobbly texture provided.
Beneath all of these hundreds and thousands there is a layer of chocolate which covers the strawberry flavoured ice cream centre. It does sound like a very inviting combination and both my daughters really loved all of these flavours particularly my yougest daughter who wolfed hers down incredibly quickly. However, my older daughter tends to be a lot more delicate in her eating habits and she likes to take things much more slowly and steadily so she can savour what she is eating at her leisure. This did cause a slight problem because if you do not eat it quickly enough it does all start to disintegrate and the chocolate slides off making a sloppy mess. It's always best to insist that they eat it over a bowl. There is also a warning that some of the colours may stain so it's probably best that they don't eat them whilst wearing pristine white dresses!
Overall then, these nobbly bobbly ice cream lollies have provided a tasty treat for my girls and have made an interesting alternative from their usual yoghurts. I do think that the sugar content seems alarmingly high which is why I won't be buying them on a regular basis, but I don't mind every once in a while. They are also fairly reasonably priced and even better value if they are on offer.
My daughters think they are great and they receive a big thumbs up from them! And of course, whatever makes my girls smile...
Advantages: Completely covered in chocolate. Disadvantages: Only four in the box.
As mentioned in my previous "FAB ice lolly" review, I stated that Asda is currently running a deal where you can purchase two boxes of certain ice lollies for £3.00, the second box of lollies that my son was responsible for picking are the previously unknown to me brand of "Nobbly Bobbly's".
These are also produced by Nestle, which from what I can gather, are the front runners in the iced confectionary market.

Next to this is the name "Nobbly Bobbly" in bold and extremely colourful text, very eye catching! Also dooted around the picture are what can only be described as cartoon sprinkles, all again brightly ...

I always used to have this lolly as a child and have to admit that I still love this lolly now and I am 24 yrs old. It reminds me of my child-hood and my nephew also loves these lollies as well, so we often buy them for him.

Advantages: Yum, yum, yummy Disadvantages: Bobbly bits can get stuck in your teeth!
...Made by Nestle they come in a striking pink box with a big image of the lolly on the front and Nobbly Bobbly written in bold colourful letters. Cartoon hundreds and thousands are dotted around the box in a fun and playful manner. These boxes are very easy to spot in the freezer department, and I can imagine that the design of the box would be particularly appealing to children. Each lolly is packaged individually in a cellophane wrapper, again in ... ...Pulling the lolly out of the wrapper can be a bit messy, as the lolly is covered in hundreds and thousands. Some have inevitably fallen off, and are about to drop all over your lap, but this is part of the charm! This lolly is made of layers, on the outside there is a covering of chocolate (actually it is "chocolate flavour coating") dipped in hundreds and thousands ("coloured sugar balls"). The chocolate is just thick enough to be the perfect consistancy ...

Advantages: the taste Disadvantages: Not for those who aren't keen on chocolate
I actually didn't even know that these were still being made but when I popped into Morrisons this week I saw that they were on 'buy one get free'. I was hungry at the time and this is a big mistake when going shopping and I threw a couple of boxes in the basket. There are four in a box and cost £1.99 if they aren't on offer. The ice lolly consists of a block of chocolate wrapped in strawberry ice cream and the whole thing is finished off with a ... ...This ice lolly is perfect for a child or an adult who still has a little child in them trying to get out (I bet Michael Jackson ate them!). The 'hundreds and thousands' are so appealing to the eye and when I pull the wrapper from the lolly, I am in awe of the colours. Once I have finished taking in what I consider to be a 'wonder of the world', I take lick. The texture is rough and to be honest it doesn't taste of much other than being left with ...

My inspiration for writing this review comes from giving a r/r/c on another review for a well known ice lolly and commenting that I preferred a Nobbly Bobbly. The reviewer left me a message asking me what on earth a Nobbly Bobbly was - hence this review!
Well, firstly, for any one who hasn't had the pleasure of coming across a Nobbly Bobbly, it is in fact an ice lolly, made by Nestle.
I'm not a huge fan of ice lollies, but when I'm in the mood, ... ...choice.
THE PACKAGING
They are packaged in a compact box of approx 6" x 3" and contain 4 lollies.
The box is quite bright and is quite obviously aimed at attracting the attention of the kids.
It is mainly bright pink in colour with a large picture of the lolly in the middle. The words 'Nobbly Bobbly' explode across the front in white bubble lettering, shadowed in dark blue. Surrounding all this is multi coloured balls with little Mr Men type ...
