This is my special Christmas review I don't normally eat this many chocolates in a row (honest) but for ciao I will make an exception.
THE START OF QUALITY STREET Quality Street have been around forever haven't they? Along with Roses I think they were invented with Adam and Eve, that wasn't leaves covering their modesty it was the green triangle! Produced by Nestle in 1936 they came out in pretty boxes costing around 2 shilling and in the 50's moved on to the tins which I think was the best and will remain the best packaging for Quality Street. Quality Street is exported to over 70 worldwide countries and remains one of the most exciting chocolate varieties you can buy. They were no1 bestseller for twist wrap assortment in 2005, 06 and 07 proving they still have what it takes to please people's taste buds.
PACKAGING You can buy Quality Street in 480g and 275g cartons, 1.2kg tins and 900g jars; all the tins and boxes are brightly designed in trademark purple with But even with all of those different packaging you still get the same selection of sweets 12 mouth watering chocolates all individually wrapped in brightly coloured foil wrapping. Enclosed in every box and tin which I think is brilliant is the little piece of paper with pictures of all the chocolates so you can decide what you are going to eat instead of chewing on a few and deciding you hate them!
DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS Toffee Deluxe The toffee deluxe is not one of my favourite its such a chore to eat wrapped in a dark brown wrapper (don't worry its not the dreaded coffee cream back for revenge) you get an oblong shaped sweet which consists of milk chocolate wrapped around some very hard set toffee. If you put the whole thing in your mouth you can guarantee being shut up for at least 30mins whilst you break it down enough to digest, on the other hand you can sit and bite bits off but its pretty hard going for very little reward. The toffee is ok especially being covered in a nice creamy chocolate but it doesn't leave a particularly nice after taste.
Milk Choc Block The milk chocolate block is just too boring for words. Ok I know people like just plain chocolate but this isn't even overly nice chocolate. I don't know why it tasted any different to the chocolate on the other sweets but it does. Wrapped in a very dark green foil wrapping you are expecting something a bit special but as soon as you start to melt the chocolate in your mouth it tastes bland and very sugary. Not one for me at all.
Coconut Éclair This is probably my second favourite in the tin its delicious. Wrapped in a dark blue foil you slowly unwrap to a sweet smelling coco nutty aroma once you have bitten or sucked off the chocolate you get an infusion of coconut and chocolate mixed together so tightly that once broken apart you get a real taste sensation. If you don't like coconut then don't bother with this one as you get a real strong taste of it I find these really Moorish and could eat them all day.
Toffee Penny This is the one I have always been told to avoid and from a young age I realised why. Attractive as it looks in its golden wrapper looking like a big shiny coin beneath lurks the tooth wrencher! This appears to be an innocent looking toffee with a nice toffee aroma. Once you put this in your mouth and start chewing you are overcome with the lovely toffee taste so much so you don't realise it has actually got to your back teeth and attached itself to all of your fillings. As nice as these taste I would avoid well that's unless you would like your back teeth detaching.
The Purple One I don't know why everyone raves about this one so much its my mums favourite and she eats them all anyway so I don't get a look in anyway which I am not to bothered about after sampling anyway. They are neatly wrapped in a bright purple wrapper. As soon as you bite into this sweet chocolate smelling sensation you are met with lovely oozing caramel that slides down your throat and then urgh a big fat nut! Yuck why do they have to spoil it with a big nut in the middle! Not one for me I'm afraid.
Orange Chocolate Crunch These are my third favourite and they aren't too sickly they are a hexagonal shape wrapped tightly in orange foil. I like to bite the chocolate in half and suck it and chew the other half. Its really nice because as soon as you bite into the pure chocolate your get to suck these little tiny pieces of orange that explode with orange flavourings so your taste buds are going bad trying to suck up the orange taste.
Vanilla Fudge This has to be my overall favourite but this is biased because I am a huge lover of fudge that and marzipan are the sweetest tasting things ever! The sweet s an oblong shape with 3 lines running down the middle wrapped in my favourite colour wrapping pink! Once you have either sucked or bitten the milk chocolate apart you are faced with beautifully tasting vanilla fudge it is delicious and those seconds of tasting that fudge are bliss because it is soon gone. Once you have eaten the sweet you are left with a lovely after taste.
Strawberry Delight This is my all time favourite because I absolutely lurve strawberry! When you unwrap the dark red wrapper you are faced with a nice rounded sweet once you pop it into your mouth you have an infusion of dark chocolate and sweet gooey strawberry filling that really attacks your taste buds. Every time I eat one of these I salvanate just at the thought of putting it in mouth yummy.
Orange Cream The orange cream is very similar to the strawberry delight but has some what changed to how it used to be which was exactly liked the strawberry delight because although it shows on the sweet list as been rounded it is in fact oblong with the trademark orange wrapper but the inside is less gooey it is more of a fondant filling which is very strong but can be a little bit sickly, I don't like to eat many of these I prefer the orange crunch if I am going to go for an orange option.
Caramel Swirl The caramel swirl for me is a perfect all rounder everyone must love the caramel swirl, as it is so inoffensive. Wrapped in a golden wrapper you can smell the sweet smelling chocolate and caramel mix outside of the wrapper. You have a nice rounded chocolate shaped a lot like a rolo. You can suck these but I prefer to bite the top off and let the beautiful creamy caramel pour out. This is such a plain sweet with so much taste it doesn't need over the top flavours to make this taste divine.
The Green Triangle This is one of the chocolates I always avoid from the tin yet a lot of my family enjoy it, I cant stand the horrible triangular shaped chocolate all spruced up in its green foil looking all xmasy! Once the wrapper is off (make sure you don't do what I do and get the foil in your mouth ouch!) you have to admit looking at the chocolate is like pure perfection a beautifully formed sensation or so you would think. As soon as I have bitten off the top of the milk chocolate triangle I chew away at the chocolate fondant neatly squeezed inside to me its like eating a cheap Belgium chocolate the inner chocolate tastes nutty and leaves a nasty after taste its not one that got my taste buds dancing that's for sure.
Toffee Finger The Toffee finger is nice but not ideal if you're looking for a nice an easy to eat sweet. The toffee finger named obviously because of the shape of the chocolate is wrapped in a yellowy gold wrapper twisted at both ends very tightly. Once you have twizzled the wrapper off you cant just suck the chocolate you have to bite it because its made from a nice smooth milk chocolate but the caramel is hard and you have to bite into but this one doesn't stick to your teeth too much as you can bite it down into little cubes. Ideally you should have these soaked in a nice cup of tea uuuummmm.
Now you can also get extra large versions of the purple one, the green triangle and the caramel swirl from most shops because they are classed as the 3 favourites. There not particularly my favourites but the strawberry delight and orange cream would be a bit sickly in large I suppose.
PRICES When I was a kid I always remember Quality Street being super expensive we only had a tin at Christmas and it had to be roses or quality street never both because they were about £10 a tin but now days with the price wars you can pick them up for around £5.00 or even £4.50 if you buy 2 at the same time! The tins have been up and down in price for years but the boxes and jars have stayed very much static at around £3.00 for 480g and £5.00 for a 900g jar.
STOCKISTS You can pick up Quality Street from almost anywhere these days Tescos, Sainsburys, Marko, Morrisons, your local shop and I even noticed they were selling them in my local petrol station. The list is endless it seems you can pick up a box or tin from anywhere these days.
MY OVERALL THOUGHTS I absolutely love Quality Street because there are so many different chocolates to choose from you would be hard pushed to moan that there wasn't one you liked just a little bit. I think the reusable tin they come in is great for keeping mice pies in or if you're like my family the Xmas baubles. There isn't anyone I know that wouldn't indulge in a Quality Street now and again. I wouldn't purchase them throughout the year as I think it would spoil them but certainly for rounding off your Christmas dinner these are great. Especially my favourites Vanilla fudge, strawberry delight and orange cream. I know these are probably hated by most but if we all liked the same there would be none left at the bottom to feed to the dog. I think you get really good value for money from the tins and I know there is now a lot of competition but Quality Street have been going for this long I think they have got a lot longer to go yet. Whether your buying Quality Street for yourself or as a gift you will always be satisfied I am sure. Quality street have been going for over 70 years and they have just got better and better in my opinion so I will look forward to seeing what they look and taste like in another 70 years.
Advantages: Cheap, good selection of sweets to choose from Disadvantages: Orange and Strawberry ones taste horrible
Nestlé Quality Streets are delicious and are sold in a few different sized packages. Quality Streets are a firm favourite of mines because they taste great and there is a good assortment of chocolate in each box or tin. Nestlé Quality Streets were launched in 1936 and are still an extremely popular boxed twist wrap assortment. ==Packaging==

...~Quality Street Facts~
The Nestle Rowntree factory that makes the sweets is based in Halifax, West Yorkshire; Nearly 7 million sweets are manufactured here every day!
Quality Street are now available in over 70 countries including Canada where they are very popular.
According to the Rowntrees website, the Purple Hazelnut in caramel chocolate is the most popular!
They were the best selling 'twist-wrap' sweets in 2005, 2006 and 2007 in the UK so ... ...the like.
~The Sweets~
There are currently 12 varieties of sweets in a tin of Quality Street. They do change the contents of the tin sometimes but the old favourites always remain.
Below is a list of the sweets currently in a tin in my preferred order (favourite at number one) and a description of each.

Advantages: Excellent choice Disadvantages: Some people may find them a bit too sickly-sweet
Nestle Quality Street is something you can crack open whether it’s Christmas, you’re having a party or you’re just in the mood to spoil yourself. With so many wickedly tempting varieties, it’s a timeless selection that never loses its appeal to me.
I am writing this with a newly opened box and generally feeling a bit sorry for myself (the kids have so far been off nursery for two weeks and it’s just starting to get on my nerves a bit).
So I thought ... ...too!
THE PACKAGING
Nestle Quality Street comes in a few different packages. You can buy these delicious sweets in large hexagon tins (hmm… I think it’s hexagon shaped anyway…), in a small carton or a larger sized carton (guess which one I’ve got!!).
Nah, I’ve only got the large carton (gee I say that like it’s nothing…) and it’s vibrant purple packaging stands out a mile next to it’s competitors. With the Nestle Quality Street logo on the front ...

Advantages: Lots of chewy ones Disadvantages: go soft easily, chocolate can be bland
...on their own. Unwrapped Nestle have stamped a little bow on the top of the chocolate for decoration. It smelt of milk chocolate with a hint of orange. Inside the milk chocolate there is a sort of cream/ganache filling with crunchy orange flavoured bits. I found that these were best enjoyed if you let them melt on your tongue. The orange flavour is not as powerful as the Orange Crème, it is much more subtle and compliments the creamier milk chocolate. ... ...discernable smell is that of Nestle chocolate which is basically what this chocolate is except that there is a hazelnut lurking in its depths. I find the best way to enjoy these is to suck the chocolate off first because that way you can enjoy the creamy chocolate taste which is similar in taste to a Yorkie bar. As you suck you slowly reveal the hazelnut and when all the chocolate has gone you then chew the hazelnut, releasing its wonderfully rich ...

...is a doppelganger for the Nestle Rolo. Biting into the chocolate confirms that this is indeed a Rolo in disguise with runny caramel sauce erupting from the milk chocolate shell when any kind of tooth pressure is applied.
●Strawberry Dream●
Not my favourite of the Quality Street family this chocolate comes wrapped in bright red cellophane. Unlike most of the other chocolates in this collection the Strawberry Dream is plain chocolate ... ...the Strawberry Dream is one to avoid in my opinion.
●Country Fudge●
I love fudge in any shape or form so I pulled apart the pink cellophane that keeps this chocolate fresh with reckless abandon. Country Fudge is another oval shaped chocolate and is soft to the chew. A delicious sugary taste envelopes the mouth as it disintegrates easily and the hint of creaminess stays on the palette long after the sweet has gone. ●Milk Chocolate ...

Advantages: THEY ARE LOVELY Disadvantages: NEVER EAT THEM ALL YOURSELF
Sorry this opinion is in way past Easter, but I have been waiting for Ciao to add this product and find it already is here but I never received the email to let me know.
Now I'm sure you have all heard, tasted, or demolished the odd box of qualitystreet, I know I have in my time. As it was (yes that word again) Easter, well as it was easter, my husband wanted to get me something a little different instead of the usual easter egg, so he got me NestleQualityStreet....Mini eggs.
These are new I thought, aswell as thinking oh how lovely and thanking him, he tells me they cost around £5.00 a box, but not seeing the receipt I can't tell you for sure. But it was the best £5.00 spent I think.

Advantages: Eggs-tra special Disadvantages: Eggs-pensive
My boyfriend's family takes Easter very seriously - or at least, as an excuse for very serious chocolate consumption. On top of the eggs we gave each other (his: Harry Potter Diagon Alley with sherbet lemons; hers: Scooby Doo with free spooky torch), his mum came through with a Terry's White Chocolate Orange egg apiece and a box containing QualityStreet Mini Eggs.
Novelty value winning over tried and tested favourite, we cracked these open shortly after breakfast. An attractively heavy box promised much chocolatey goodness within - net weight 580g, 605 with the wrappers on. Compare that to your average Easter egg and it looks...well, hollow.
The box is a top-heavy trapezoid; the same basic shape as a QualityStreet box, but shorter and wider. It's sky-blue with the QualityStreet name and a picture of wrapped sweeties nestling in ...
While I am sat here wondering what I can write about I realize half the answer is in my mouth I am of course writing about nestle the big purple one. I am greedy though I don't buy just one, oh no I have a box of three.
Now calm down I may share but then again I may not, I have already demolished one while I am writing. We all have our own favourites when we are given or even buy ourselves a box of qualitystreet, Mine are the big purple one.
I love the creamy milk chocolate, the way it is so soft and creamy, then the caramel taste hits you,and it's all soft and tasty. When I eat the first one I was surprised,I expected a great big nut to be in the middle but oh no, I found one small nut.
Then after I was chewing and slurping for a while I found another nut and then another What a surprise, not one but three lovely nuts ...
