...Shreddies are made by Nestle and when they first came on to the market they made a pleasant change from cornflakes or porridge which were the only other products I can remember being around. Shreddies are little square shaped cereal comprising overlapping grids of malted wheat. I have always liked malted products which I guess is what draws me to this product.
They are a whole grain cereal described as a "Whole Wheat Malted Cereal" with the ingredients ... ...(93%), Sugar, Barley Malt Extract, Salt plus a whole range of Vitamins and Minerals: Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B6, Thiamin (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Folic Acid (Folacin), Biotin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Iron.
Given the whole wheat content of this cereal they are unsuitable for anyone with a gluten intolerance and there is a warning on the packet that they may contain traces of nut.
They are marketed on the basis that as they are packed ...

...information on Shreddies and other Nestle cereals can be found at www.nestlecereals.co.uk
In our home Shreddies have also become a popular bedtime snack and very often my children will ask for some Shreddies to eat dry without milk or sugar, they just eat them like crisps. My ten month old baby has even been eating Shreddies dry in his hand. Shreddies are also available as Coco Shreddies and Honey Shreddies, we haven't tried these other flavours, ... ...is no information about these on the packet, although I am sure I have seen them in the shops.
Overall Shreddies have proved a definite hit with my children, I think they are marginally healthier than other cereals aimed at children and they are a good source of fibre.
Will appear on other sites. ...

Advantages: Great For Snacks Disadvantages: Not Moist Enough
...Whislt I was doing my usual boring daily shopping routine, I came across Nestle New Shreddies milk and cereal bars so I decided to give them a try as they were only 99p for six bars.
I dont usually like cereal bars as in my opinion they have to much fat in them and don't really taste all that nice, but anyway I unwrapped 1 bar and had a munch, to tell the truth it wasn't that bad but I found that the shreddies had no where near enough moisture in them and in between bites were quite dry.
The bars themselves look nice and have white chocolate on the bottom of the bar then a layer of shreddies and what look like little rice krispie pieces on top although looking nice, they really didnt do it for me.
The ingredients are as follows:
cereal grains (44%), (whole grain wheat, rice, maize semolina), sugar, glucose syrup, partially...

Advantages: Chocolately, Healthy, Yummy Disadvantages: make Mouth Dry If Eaten Without Milk
...While I may be slightly uncomfortable with the new ad-campaign with the grannies, I don't want to cause offence but I don't really want old ladies handling my food. And more than that I miss that fat blue thing with the hat that which was hunger apparently) and always got outsmarted by the shreddies somehow.
Coco Shreddies are like regular Shreddies, being small, about an inch square and layers of lattice wheat, and covered in some chocolatey stuff.
They are very delicious, and as well as having them for breakfast, since coming to University I have found myself with a box by the computer just eating them as they are, and as they are mde of whole grain, I find it unlikely that they are going to cause serious long term damage....

Advantages: Contains Chocolate For The Kiddies !! Disadvantages: None
...I though it was about time I did a 'proper' review as I seem to be spending too much time in the 'cafe' !!
Nestle Coco Shreddies.
---------------------------------
Cost: £1.79 for a 500gm box from Morrisons.
The cereal itself is brown , roughly 1in square , and look like miniture waffles.
The info on the box reccomends a 45g serving with 125 ml of semi skimmed milk..In theory this would give just over 11 servings at a cost of around 16p a serving.
Based on the above figures , a single serving would provide the following nutritional values:
Energy...225kcal
Protein...7.8g
Carbohydrate ( of which sugars )...41.5g ( 19g )
Fat ( of which saturates )...3.1g ( 1.6g)
Fibre...3.2g
Sodium...0.2g
This cereal also provides 15% of the Recommended Daily Allowance of 8 vitamins and iron.
Obvoiusly those figures are based on the cereal...
