Advantages: Easy withdrawls/deposits, quick/efficient customer service, thorough procedures, etc. Disadvantages: Sometimes I would like to be able to do certain things inside the bank, which I am unable to do as it is an Internet Bank.

As times change, and technology improves, things that were once thought to be impossible become possible. However, many people are still skeptical with the most revolutionary information tool of the 20/21st century, the internet. Some refuse to give their credit card numbers out over the internet, with good reason, and even more are not yet use to the idea of using the internet as a banking tool. Perhaps we are jumping ahead quicker than we should, but there are a few of us who have tried this technique and now swear by it. I am one of those few.
A few months ago I ran into problems with my local bank. A company withdrew monies from my checking account without authorization. Of course, this then set back many bills and also accrued late charges which I had to pay out of my own pocket. I remember thinking, at the time, "this just isn't fair", but the truth is, everyone will run into a dilemma with their bank at some point.
Well, being that I grew up on the internet, I was OK with the idea of Internet Banking. Moreover, I ventured out into InternetLand and opened a Banking Account with NetBank.com. The perks sounded really good and worth a try, and the not-so-perks weren't any different than my local banks'. So, without further adue, I funded my account and soon began collecting INTEREST off the money I had placed in my CHECKING ACCOUNT. This soon became astonishing. All these years, while banking locally, I was being CHARGED to keep money in an account. Suddenly, everything changed, and I was being PAID to have money with NetBank.com.
So, you're wondering...When am I going to drop the bomb? When am I going to say that some hacker found my account number and withdrew all the monies from my account? Perhaps you're expecting a computer failure to wipe out my account without a trace and for no one to even know I ever had an account at all. Well, I can gladly (very gladly at that) reassure you that after approximately 7 months with this bank, NetBank.com, I have had no mistakes, unauthorized withdrawls, misplaced deposits, etc. occur. Of course, this isn't to say that none will ever occur, but that I have been going strong for 7 months with no holdbacks.
I received a Visa checkcard immediately upon opening my account, (unlike with my local bank which wouldn't offer me one if their lives depended on it) interest rates on my checking accounts, my first box of checks were free (I rarely use them anyway), and deposits/withdrawls are easy and always accessible.
My testimony probably won't make you go right out and open an account, and quite frankly, I don't know if NetBank.com only serves the United States or not, but hopefully you will at least consider the option.
Advantages: Easy, No lines, Great rates, no fees Disadvantages: Low number of fee free ATMs, avaliability of funds
...some American reviews on here. NetBank is one of the best internet banks around, however with no ATM reimbursment, it lacks something that a brick and mortar based bank could offer you, let alone another internet bank. The lack of Surcharge free ATMs is enough to stick anyone with a hot poker when cash is needed. There is a petition now for this however. Located @ petitiononline.com/netbank . This petition will request that NetBank join the Allpoint ...

Advantages: excellent online banking, many high st branches. Disadvantages: None spring to mind.
I've been with HSBC for around 5 years now, and moved over from NatWest for a reason I cannot remember now! I've never had any problems with any aspects of the bank at all really. I once needed an overdraft extending which was done over the phone withn 5 minutes, so that was easy enough to sort out. All the usual things like new chequebooks, cards, statements etc have always appeared when they should have.
I recently needed a mortgage and should perhaps have gone to my bank to see what they could offer but other factors prevented me from attending my bank at the time.
I considering moving away from HSBC when everyone else started doing Internet banking, however they did offer a software based PC banking which has now thankfully being upgraded to netbanking. This is where it really shines! Everything you expect is available ...

Advantages: Phone banking is OK Disadvantages: Utterly rubbish internet banking
I have been using Barclays for many years but just recently I (and all of my friends) have moved to smile.co.uk. Barclays Internet Backing system is the worst I have ever experienced. It is slow and unreliable. I hate to say it, because I don't like the fact that Barclays are closing remote branches, but I primarily do my banking over the net. Barclays did not come up with the goods and when I try to explain to them why they are so bad, they don't even bother to reply. Pathetic. I have closed my account and I suggest you do that to. If you havn't got an account then get one and close it. :¬) It is time to stand up to these big boys and give them a - wakeup - slap. ...

Advantages: Convenience Disadvantages: Must do better
An average banking site, it takes away the routine hassles and allows you to make payments, transfer money around and check transactions. Though better than the Lloydstsb site, it is still somewhat limited. A payment facility is easily set up without the need to resort to the phone, and transactions are diplayed imstantly, though they often don't go through until the next working day. The links to mortgages and savings schemes are laughable, with a minimum of information given, so that you still need to see someone in person, or phone them up. This is a site that promises much, but needs to work harder to catch up with some of the other netbanks. ...
