Hello! Thank you for rating and commenting on my reviews. I will not be writing a review within the summer holidays as I will be busy re-decorating my house and will hopefully start writing after the summer holidays.

Net Nanny 5 is just another 'Security Package'. But with the insurance of Internet Security, there is an added bonus of 'Parental Control'. The Net Nanny 5 provides a Chat Monitor which discretely monitors and records popular chat and instant messaging programs. It will also notify you when your child is in a potentially risky conversation, limit the time spent on online chat and will stop your child from giving out personal information.
Net Nanny 5 is an excellent program for parents with relatively young kids, as this package restricts lengthy chatting times and also blocks inappropriate websites. You will also be able to personalize the security settings to suit the ages of your children. However, there is a downside to all of this. The disadvantage is for parents who use the internet. Net Nanny 5 will block potentially unsafe websites even though you change the settings in your user profile to 'not block anything'.
You may also get problems with programs that are not related with the Internet, such as Microsoft Word. Net Nanny may bring up a 'connect' box while you are in the middle of some important work. The problem with this software is that you will never be able to get the security settings right. It will either be too strict or too kind, never in between.
To use the software you have to have a user name and password. Which can be handy for Parents with young kids, but if you are someone living on your own or with no children, a user name and password can be a hassle as you would most likely want to do everything quickly and efficiently. Although parents with older kids who want to keep their children away from the 'unsafe' websites may find this software useless as kids learn fast and may find a way of disabling the security settings.
The Net Nanny software will only work on WindowsOperating systems. You can purchase different license quantities, which limits how many computers the software can be installed on. The license quantities are 1 user, 10 users, 5 users and 25 users. So a license quantity of 25 users will allow you to use a single CD to install the software on 25 different computers.
The Net Nanny 5 software can be bought for £14-£40 from various online shops. The newer version to Net Nanny 5 is being sold on Ebay for £25-£40. The newer version is called Net Nanny 5.5.
Overall I think that this security software is very good for parents with really young children for whom most websites on the Internet are 'potentially unsafe'. However for older users, say for over 18's this software is not very good, it is actually poor given its inability to properly determine which websites are safe and which ones are unsafe. Over 18's do not require most websites to be blocked, but there may be some that should never be seen by anyone, no matter how old they are.
There are still many flaws in this software as it may affect programs that are not related to the internet, such as Microsoft Word where the Net Nanny software may ask you for your permission to connect to the internet even though you do not require the internet. The security settings are not very efficient as they are either too kind or too strict. Once these major flaws are fixed, only then can this software be successful.
I do not recommend this software to anyone as there are too many flaws, and also because there are many other security programs out there which are much better and have less flaws.
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed my review of Net Nanny 5.
