An overall good netbook
Advantages: Portability, good size keyboard, webcam of very good quality Disadvantages: Touchpad will be annoying for some
I purchased this netbook from Currys for around £279 after having touchpad roughness issues with my first netbook purchase (I got a [different] replacement), and I'm quite happy with this netbook. This netbook comes with 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive space (I believe), Intel Atom N270 processor, 10.1" screen and Windows XP Home Edition. The netbook I purchased from Currys came with a 3-cell battery with average battery life of up to 2 hours 40 ... ...although can get very greasy easily (especially the top cover and the screen itself - but a good wipe of the top cover is all that is needed to clean again). -- Keyboard -- The keyboard is quite nicely sized, may not be to all tastes but I can type on it pretty much fine - may take some adjustment as with most other netbooks keyboards but the keyboard is much better than what I've seen on other netbooks. The keyboard is quite loud during typing but ...

Mini Mac Netbook in disguise
Advantages: Runs Mac OS X (patched edition) perfectly, easy to upgrade RAM and WiFi modules, great screen Disadvantages: Rubbish hard drive, hard drive can be expensive to upgrade, just like any other 9" netbook
...is Home Edition with some Dell software and utilities installed on it. Performance is what you would expect from netbooks with an Atom CPU, i.e. it is pretty nippy, and the best part of all is that the 1 GB of RAM is very easy to upgrade since it is located under a massive plastic plate that allows access to most of the internal, upgradable components.
Speaking of upgrade, if there is one place you would want to upgrade it would be the hard drive ... ...considering that Windows XP + Dell software takes up nearly half of the storage. The problem with upgrading the hard drive is that you have to purchase the correct sized mini pci-e storage card. A standard one that can be used in an Asus EeePC, for example, is too long, and the ones that fit are very expensive (£150 for a 64 GB upgrade? £255 for a 128 GB upgrade? Madness!) Some would say “Buy a SDHC 16GB card and install Windows XP on that then!”, ...

The Acer AspireOne; good, but could be better.
Advantages: Small and portable. Has a good messenger. Disadvantages: Can't download anything, and does not have a CD drive. Also is fairly low on memory
I bought the acer one as it seemed a good buy, it was cheap and fulfilled all my basic needs, which as a teenager are basically to be able to get online and use a messenger, which this laptop does definitly allow me to do. The messenger is very good, allowing you to sign into multiple accounts on one messenger. Meaning you can sign onto your yahoo messenger and MSN at the same time, always useful. The system is also very quick at loading and runs ... ...on, which definitly beats my desktop. The only things I found I was disappointed with was the fact I cannot download games etc., use iTunes, or play CD's, but as it cost so little, it is very hard to complain. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone who needs to do a lot of work or business based things, but for basic needs such as browsing online , using social networking sites and messenger it is ideal. ...

Hp mini 5101 its worth it small and comfortable
Advantages: Comfortable Disadvantages: A bit too slwo for me
HP introduced the concept of the durable business-class netbook, and the Mini 5101 raises the bar with a more compact design and even longer battery life. This $425 machine is slightly more expensive than other netbooks, and the touchpad is a little finicky, but the Mini 5101 will no doubt appeal to business travelers who need their netbooks to handle some abuse while on the road. The HP Mini 5101 should look familiar to anyone who has seen HP’s ... ...coated with a finish that HP claims makes them 50 times more resistant to visible wear. Additionally, the keyboard can withstand minor spills. Touchpad on the Mini 5101 is a bit small at 2.5 x 1.4 inches (compared to 3.1 x 1.6 inches for the Toshiba mini NB205). Moreover, the glossy black surface on HP’s touchpad had too much friction, making it somewhat difficult to move the cursor. Still, the mouse buttons, also covered in a soft rubber, responded ...

Acer Aspires To Be A Proper Laptop, And Nearly Pulls It Off
Advantages: Very portable, excellent keyboard. Battery life OK but not what is stated Disadvantages: Slow to boot from 'cold'.
...eye was caught by an Acer net-book sporting twice as much RAM, a 250 gigabyte hard drive, and all for £299 at Tesco's On-Line store, on a "double club-card points" deal - effectively a 2% discount, and available within 2 working days at a large branch of my choosing. I could even get a metallic maroon one to match my Lite-On drive. This one had a slightly larger screen at 11.6" diagonal in 16:9 widescreen format, and as such looks like a worthy replacement ... ...keys straight from a normal Acer laptop. All they've done is shave a millimeter off the gap surrounding them. These keys are the nicest and most well-proportioned I've poked two fingers at, at least on a portable. A less favourable first impression is the time taken to boot up. Of course, I'm forgetting that in order to give as much battery life as possible from what has to be a small battery (duuhhh!), the processors in these things aren't ...
